Portal Question Answered
I don't understand why don't people get it, it's just basic physics.

I dont get why people keep arguing this question
I used to believe the same thing until I realized the point isn't that it's a hoola-hoop, it's that gravity affects the object as its entering AND leaving the first portal.

The moment the edge of the object is through the portal, the newly-transferring mass is gaining upward momentum through the new portal. Depending on how fast the piston is slamming downward with the entrance portal, the speed of the object would increase, as the object escaping out of the exit portal would only increase.

God, I'm actually participating in this thread again

Why would a static object passing through the portal be subjected to any force other than gravity? Like if you put a door frame on wheels and launched it at me, I would obviously have to jump in place to avoid tripping on the frame but there's no force to launch me forward when I pass through.

It's actually C. The portal gathers completely unmoving, compressed air particles until it stops, at which point the explosive decompression of those air particles wanting to be somewhere else launches the cube away from the portal.

Fine. I'm feeling generous so I'll spoonfeed you. A means there is some absolute reference frame relative to which momentum is preserved. Momentum is a vector, meaning it has a direction. If momentum is preserved like afags claim, you will keep falling downwards and be sliced in half by the portal, instead of your momentum changing to be sideways and launching out of the portal (hint, this is what happens in the game)

violates causality/relativity and is only mathematically possible within the same reference frame (That is, there is no relative difference in motion between the portal mouths)

It also violates the second law of thermodynamics

you have to introduce new kinds of math/physics to try and reconcile and fix these problems but it's basically handwavium as we don't have any real portals or wormholes to observe what's actually the case and there are no indications that real ones exist

That passing through a portal will not cause a change to the objects momentum. It will not suddenly change direction and slam into the edge of the portal according to some retarded absolute frame of reference. The very idea of passing a portal's threshhold having any effect on an object is the core of B.
To be clear here, using portals to transfer vertical momentum into horizontal is not a change of direction, it's folding space to turn that change of direction into a straight line, preserving the momentum as it was.
Anonymous No.718754670 >>718754783
>>718753981
>will not cause a change to the objects momentum
But the central point of A is that the cube will magically stop after exiting the portal and plop down. You people try to justify it by saying the cube was never moving and portals don't change momentum, but if they don't change momentum that leads to the situation in my original image where after exiting the portal you keep moving towards the ground and get cut in half by the portal because your momentum (and thus direction, remember, momentum is a vector) doesn't change. It also implies the existence of some absolute reference frame, because there's no such thing as "not moving" without one.

I'm not wasting time with you anymore, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what you're arguing against and are in too deep to allow that to be corrected
