I can't be the only one who bought the game, saw reviews saying they beat it in 30-34 hours, but I haven't my finished my first playthrough and I'm 64 hours in. What the hell?

I'm only in the Shu Sanctum and it's just migraine-inducing. I wandered around for like two hours going in circles, and then found an invisible bridge and ended up doing the map backwards? I assume because all the enemies are suddenly posted up facing away from me.
Killed the insane fire guy, wandered around for another hour into a courtyard that was literally identical to the one where he was, except tjis one was populated with a bunch of 1hp sick humans, and was going to lead off into yet another branching path. I've already got two other braching paths on the back burner, so I just called it a night. Game's weirdly exhausting. Think it's the level design

Can someone please explain to me what the fuck is going on in this game? I got the "best" ending because I mostly followed a guide after realizing how easy it was to brick quests, and I have absolutely no idea how or why the fuck things played out the way they did.

It took me ~40 hours to beat first playthrough, I killed every boss except Demon of Obsession (I guessed riddle wrong), I got the “true” ending by accident. Then following guide I got the remaining 3 endings (via save scumming) in NG+ in about 12 hours total.

I can’t imagine first playthrough taking more than 50 unless you got hard stuck at multiple places. I’m type of person who runs areas multiple times looking for stuff I missed.

In other news: my Ps5 seems have given up attempting to force download the censorship patch. It was a fucking struggle to stop it whilst I was playing. But after 100%ing game, it seems to have just stopped trying. But I have no real desire to replay it, so I don’t really care.

Having two swords allows you to keep the skyborn might buff when you swap weapons, you can build absurd amount of stacks this way and dish out incredible damage
Swapping between darkfrost edge and the one with an ice fan is one of the most fluid playstyles i've seen thus far. Spells are just a bonus.

Wuchang is about exploration, the locations are very well designed and are maze-like. Fighting mechanics is dynamic and fast paced, you can switch your entire build at any moment.

It's a great game, but somewhat of a reversed wuchang: the levels are fairly small and isolated, but it has a great combat system.
Among other things it has the best resource management system i've ever seen in an arpg. You have a spirit meter instead of stamina. It refills by deflecting attacks or using a normal weapon combo. You spend it on specials and magic. The generation speed is incredibly fast, which gives you a huge spending power, and you can go into negative values, but you also lose spirit for blocking or getting hit, and if it reaches -1000, you get staggered for surprise buttseks.
It also has the best iteration of chinese longsword i've seen in vidya. It allows you to charge both light and heavy attacks, but you can still deflect mid-charge like with a greatsword in monster hunter, and charge attacks are incredibly satisfying. Specials are insane too, and in ng+ you get up to 6 of them at a time compared to two in wuchang.

The resource for magic in this game are charges that you recharge by doing specific actions in combat.
The general one is dodging attacks with good timing (not frame-perfect though), but depending on the weapon you have other mechanics to get more charges.

The designated "magic build" is 1h swords, and the mechanic is you get a buff that passively generates charges, but to get stacks of that buff you need to engage the enemies with attacks and dodges. The more you attack the more stacks you have, the more charges you get, the more magic you can cast.

Other weapons have different mechanics to get charges, but they all are generally slower since they don't rely on them as much (they use them for different things like weapon disciplines or instant heavy attacks).

He was eating the Cornucopia Elixirs that the Boatman was giving him. Every time he brought these up, his memory was getting worse. What? You can generate charges on a dime with Spear easily. You don't even need to use any of the disciplines in the tree to convert Boldheart stacks. If you have the Red Tasseled Spear equipped, Ebb and Flow converts the stacks. Also, Aerial Bulwark gives you 4 charges. Spear is easily one of the most versatile weapons in the game

fyi, but you can talk to Xuanyuanzi back at Reverent Temple many times throughout the game and after killing bosses, and he's never mandatory for absolutely anything, he just gives some context information and red mercury items, but nothing necessary for any quest or ending.

Speaking to Xuanyuanzi is only important one time in the game and it's basically impossible to miss as he's right next to you by the end of the game (chapter 4 ending or chapter 5 beginning i don't remember exactly when)

Huhh... I'm genuinely surprised there are people with double or more playtime for their first play through... 35 hours and I got through one play through. Simply using the default sword... and a good few hours was fiddling around with performance stuff. Was quite surprised to get to the end so fast, pretty sure I did all the bosses too. Guess it was just the Dark Souls 1 experience coming through, was the only reason I got it cause people were mentioning it although what I got was somewhat disappointing and below Elden Ring of all things when it comes to challenging. You are not finishing the majority of quests without a guide or obtaining the bad endings, even ER which technically doesn't have failstates you'll still miss like 75% of the quest scenes. Outside of DS2 there's zero incentives to do NG+ too, so only a handful of players will bother. You create openings on human sized bosses and you can either use aerial bulwark or spearveil as your defensive options. You'll probably have to use quick draw to tank a hit or solar leap. That perfect synergy just seems out of reach, swapping to axe feels bad because it works better if you have earthshatter constantly up, the only LS that feels good to swap into is cloudfrost and its weapon skill doesn't have any clash, it just straight up feels bad swapping out of twin bandits for any reason, and all the other dual swords are mediocre in comparison, swapping between plumed grace and boreal abyss would be nice but feels redundant and the only spear with a worthwile swap is the paypig once since vortex actually has active clash. Steampunk spear is TOO good and there's just no reason to use anything else.

I just can't hit that perfect synergy that makes the draw worth not dedicating 100% of your rhythm to one weapon and I'm getting burnt out searching for it. Even Boreal into vortex isn't great because while boreal has i-frames which are great for non clash hits, it doesn't position you in any way so you can easily get hit by follow up attacks, and also because it's a ranged attack it doesn't trigger the leech which is half the point of quickdraws.

The issue here isn’t about the order anons assume you’re supposed to do things in. Zhenwu was only mentioned in passing by the time you reach Hillswatch, so there’s basically no reason anyone would deliberately go anywhere besides Cloudspire. The issue is that the tunnel that leads to Mt. Zhenwu is freely accessible, located literally right next to Hillswatch, and you have no reason not to check it out since there is no indication of where it even leads or the consequences of entering it.

Whatever attempts they made to deter a player’s curiosity with caution (assuming those carts and barrels and shit were meant to do that) was definitely not enough to prevent plenty of people (myself included) from heading down there first before entering what was obviously the path you were supposed to take.

You gain stacks by attacking normally and then you use the spear Disciplines to convert those stacks. Aerial Bulwark gives 4 if you time it right. Spearveil gives 2 but is faster to execute. Amusingly enough, the supposedly difficult Tiger, Liu Cheng and that Huang Yan whore went down like bitches once I figured out how busted the Magic in this game is. Axe fills all 3 pips of magic in a specific hit just by mashing. It also does very high damage.
In comparison spear takes several hits THEN a special. Its still incredibly fast (too fast, really) but it takes more inputs, so its slightly less mash friendly.

The weapons people use in this are mostly the ones that let you play the game worse and still win, ie
DS: You just clash and ignore massive amounts of damage
1 sword: Free meter when you explore you can just mag dump on the first thing you see
Axe: Kills everything nearly instantly, gives 3 meter and lets you just block damage if you want which is surprisingly effective

Big sword and spear aren't quite as braindead as the above. You can't just trade blows with them and win or start every single fight with 3 spells in a row

Quick thinks:

It runs like ass despite easily beating requirements
World is kind of too bleak to care about the story at all. its weird they censored death, but not the 1500 mentions of rape and the rape dungeon
The weapon upgrade system just kind of doesn't work well. I can swap weapon A to B, but all my points are in weapon A. If I put the in both, I'm simply weaker than if I specialize. They should have been seperate points for each weapon, like Nioh I think did it (maybe, aint played that in ages)
Weapons are pretty poorly balanced. Axe and spear generates near endless magic and so its super easy to just spam everything to death with magic. I rarely ever felt thratened by anything.
Insanity mechanic is pretty pointless. I basically ignored it then occasionally killed my ghost if it popped up.
Whistle is too limited in its use. Not sure why they even added it.
Panties should have been their own slot.

The bosses were either dodging my third hit of the normal combo (which is the only way to generate skyborn aside from dodging) or just running away all the time.
