No, it's a complete remake from the ground up, the only thing that's the same from the original is the voice acting, everything else is new

a remaster is LITERALLY the same game engine with some bells and whistles added to it along with modern platform compatability, a remake is creating a whole new game on a new engine in the image of the old one

Konami don't know how to code shit nowadays. They used a mere unity wrapper.
The game literally had issues with things on the ps2 version because the ps2 was a strange architecture in comparison to modern consoles. Things like rain and water weren't rendered correctly in the HD version and therefore the MC version. It looks like ASS. The mods try to fix it, but they had issues for me 2bh.

you can just look at Snake's animation to see they are different, everythin from diving, to CQC, to crouch walking (which wasn't even possible in the original MGS3), to aiming, etc. And the code for the new CODEC, camoflage system, wound menu etc are all new code that is based on the CONCEPTS behind the code in the old game

This doesn't even matter anyway, I've already explained that the engine is the deciding factor in what is a remake or a remaster
SOTC is also a remake, not a remaster, it doesn't matter if it has some of the same code or animations as the original

DS2 has Kojima's fork of a different engine (Decima, used for Horizon Zero Dawn). I get the feeling Kojima's goal was to explore mechanics in DS2 and modify his engine to make them work. Might explain why Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered came literally 4 years after the original (Kojima's team debugged things?).

Still... Source does some things better than Kojima's Decima engine with physics and collision. I don't know why people ignore Source 2 still.

Yeah, the game was incredibly well optimised. I believe there was only one setting that could potentially have tanked the frame rate back then and it was to do with particle effects if you set it to the highest setting, which wasn't really necessary since it still looked good on the option below that. Otherwise it ran smoothly across pretty much all rigs. I think Kojima set a new standard, he was the first Japanese developer in triple A games development to make an actually good PC port. At least to my knowledge.

The rivers pretty much just have two states; flooded or not.
The fires happened twice during a scripted event to me and there's not much to it other than putting out the fire. It doesn't spread outside of the scripted area either.

This isn't 2004, AAA have been falling behind smaller corps for years now because they just sack the people that built engines and replaced them with people that know nothing about them.
Kinda like how corps replaced software engineers with AI users and now those AI users don't know how to debug their software.
It's the same fucking issue - overconfident and incompetent administrators hiring staff that are not able to debug and handle issues in detail because they hired staff that deal more with front ends instead.

That's why sites are getting buggy everywhere nowadays and why hacking is becoming a massive problem again - admins simply didn't hire competent staff and sacked the people with competence. Konami has a rep with doing this btw. It started with shit team silent with sacking competent developers and replacing them with cheaper, shitter, staff.

It used to be that they took more and more shortcuts and just made it look "good enough" for a long time, but not anymore. The culture has changed so much in AAA that it's obvious they don't even know how to debug these game or even know the bugs are there or the optimizations exist.
The most optimized shit in games right now are by indie devs on their own engines or hacker modifying rom hacks purely for the sport of optimization (see SM64 hacking community, who are insane people that can make GC and wii games run on an n64).
