RPG not JRPG. It's a shining example of what can be done when a dev team cares about a project. Fantastic game, great mechanics and brilliant story. 9/10.

No. People have just been so dried of not having an AAA RPG title that having one now when every other major RPG is either Bethesda slop, Dragon Quest, Pokemon or whatever just feels much more refreshing. The last time a major turn based RPG was released was over 10 years ago in FF13. Think about that.
And some will mention Octopath but no one fucking talks about it. Bravely Default gets much more conversation and is better known and it came out on the fucking 3DS. OT just looks lazy and uninspired, even if when you play it, it's probably good. So when something came along that appealed to that older sense of "pushing the limits of fantasy games" like old FF, E33 took off.
Also, it's a FOTM game that was shadowdrops. Shadowdrops seem to work much better in bigger budget games for some reason.

Perhaps not of all time but it's an unusually extremely good game for a genre that fell off hard after the PS2. I'm pretty sure it will at least be the main doorway into the genre for a whole new generation.

You'd be surprised how much time can make things different. Not to mention FF being turned into a more action oriented franchise which caused something of a divide in the greater fanbase. I feel like there are other games I could use that were in similar situations like this that took off, but I can't remember them for the life of me. I guess DMC5? Because there hadn't been many action games of that caliber around. If anyone else knows, chime in.

It's not bad but incredibly overrated.
The turn-based combat combined with the souls mechanics is pretty fun, but the balancing sucks ass and by the time you reach act 3 you'll be so overpowered that you'll just nuke the final boss in seconds.
The story and writing are very underwhelming. The best part of the game is the first act. It falls off hard after that.
You can tell that this game was made by amateurs.

Lets be honest, most JRPGs are just dull and shit to play. E33 actually makes the genre fun.

I would have played it if not for UE. All screenshots I've seen of it are atrocious.

"japtism" is such a good way to describe why i hate almost all anime and jrpg's idk how I have never seen that phrase before.

Anyway, the game is pretty good. The combat is a lot of fun in the same way that the mario rpg games are a lot of fun, and it has good enemy attack animations that work well with the combat system. The soundtrack is really great and pretty varied. The story is a bit melodramatic and convoluted at times but on the whole still enjoyable - for most of the game its pretty generic but i found the climax and endings very enjoyable. Pretty comparable to something like the hunger games or harry potter, its essentially young adult fiction so feels like a bit of a guilty pleasure. if you cant stand that type of media you probably wont like it. Level exploration is pretty subpar but thats fine really because everything else is good enough.
