Anyone else speedrun games out of insecurity?
>revisit donkey kong country returns for like the 4th time
>start going for the highest tier time trial rewards
>got them all
>feeling bretty gud
>start coming across gameplay of speedrunners
>realize they're far and beyond mastered the game and made the highest tier time trial look like a joke
>expected this to happen, not new to the concept of speedrunning at all
>made me think that i cant claim to be a "fan" of the game if I can't even master the mechanics to that degree
>start thinking if i was ever in a round table discussion with the speedrunners and some other gamers, I cant claim I like the game as the speedrunner will look like way more of a fan as he actually mastered the game
>made me realize im still just some casual shitter, and the game just arbitrarily put in time records and claimed those are good to pat my casual shitter self on the back and make me feel like im decent at the game when im not
>self awareness kicks in and im just some noob plebian undeserving to be a fan of the game or series
>start speedrunning out of spite and learning speedrunning strats
Does anyone else have similar thought processes when playing vidya and going for achievements? If I'm not at least top 20 in any given level or category then I don't tell people I've played the game. I'm unworthy.
