Regardless though, he is right, there's a lot of cues MD could take structure-wise from IS.
First, there's several different IS modes that have noticeably different features. MD is pretty much the same whether it's the Mirror of the Lake or whatever.
Second, there's just flat out more node types, and there's ways to alter nodes, such as upgrading them to harder versions that grant better prizes, or changing an incredibly difficult node that would surely end your run into a shop or event node.
Third, it gives more incentive to use different units depending on the items you get. This is something more relevant to a hard mode thing, but eh.

In IS, you have 6 Hope (Starlight/Cost v1) and have to pick units from the start that fit within that cost. It's similar to how a much older hard MD worked, I think MD2? The one where you went in with mostly 00 units. Gifts are actually MORE random than MD, but depending on the version of IS you are playing, you get so many that even a floor 10 run is pitiful in comparison. Of course it would have to be tweaked because any single rare unit in AK is leaps and bounds more impactful than one in LCB due to how the games work, but in essence I just think there's merit to incentivizing building up your team in MDH, OR given how gift reliant it is, changing the way it influences the route through the dungeon or the conclusion. For example in one IS, a certain route requires you to take several negative gifts to go down it that offset some of the power you obtained before it.

I think a big problem in most people realizing how not-really-random they are is that there's little way to guarantee what one is or isn't, only make solid guesses. MD gifts are barely random to me, so I can't tell exactly what you're trying to say here. I've played IS and my experience was getting a pretty much flat one collectible per node, if that, except for shops. And most collectibles weren't really doing anything in my final build since they were pulled from a completely random pool. And if we're talking about having to grind the shit out of the gamemode, IS is just as guilty as MD, they've all got their own starlight chart equivalent and it's usually pretty much obligatory to fill out a decent amount lest the mode fucking rape you.

There's a few funny exceptions like the monkey tree amounts, KQE giving extra cost if you lie twice, or the Forsaken Employee that wants you to LOSE the check, but ultimately it's not really much of a difference for most of them. It's more that in MD you can just fuse or sell a gift like the White Gossypium if you don't want it, and there's not much in the way of deviation.

My floor 10 runs usually have somewhere between 50 and 70 gifts. And all of those will have at least *some* use to me.
I'm not a player who got burnt out on Arknights some years ago, I got into Arknights like two years ago and still can only barely play IS. And it's really RNG heavy for me, since I still don't have enough operators raised to reliably have someone useful available from a given recruitment voucher.

The point is that they're pretty samey overall. It doesn't matter if you can throw the glass at the fairy or if you can take the Faelantern's bait, the point is that the nodes don't actually DO anything different most of the time, it's usually just a way to add one or two more trinkets to your pile to fuse away, while in IS you simply have more to work with. It can give you a mutation that drastically alters the course of your run (fuck IS3), improve or damage your pathfinder so future nodes you can modify become more/less detailed or even invisible if it drops too low, or grant a special collectible that completely changes the way the rest of the run goes. ? Events arms they are simply don't have different enough outcomes.
I don't recall the max amount of gifts but people have absurd amounts by the time they reach bosses like Darkmiya or the like, and altered gamestates do things like fuck with your UI, change boss behavior including adding whole new phases to fights, kidnap your operators, etc.
Basically all I mean by the team building, boiled down to the absolute simplest part, is that there should be an added aspect to what choices you have going in AND on the way.

What "variety" do you want? You're working toward different gifts at different priorities with each team, and the order and process varies wildly depending on RNG. I could do with them loosening the requirements on fusion gift activation so team design can have a little more room to breathe, or introducing less committal and less powerful fusion gifts, or really anything. But as far as "variety" within the mirror dungeon itself, I can't imagine what you're feeling deprived of.

Some right out of the gate, like Blue Archive, where iirc the only 2* added to the pool was that little retard with a rocket launcher because there were no purples otherwise. The only ones I haven't seen give up on low rarity pool updates have been Fire Emblem Heroes and Arknights but I'm sure there's more.

I would say rush your status gifts for the first 2/3 floors, THEN start worrying about accruing random shit like the stuff in the image. It works out a lot smoother.
Also, rather than listing just a bunch of "useful gifts", I'd consider categorizing them by status. Get self-sufficient Poise on any team by going for Nebulizer, Horseshoe++ and Clover, for instance.

I placed the things on the fly so the thread would still be here, but I tried to imply in my post that this is the stuff that works for all status-effect teams, something you should be mindful of as you go with the sinners of the day. Of course you should focus on your status-effect Gifts first, but I buy the ones in the image when I can because to me they work in every themed team I run with and offer great help, be it clashing, melting enemies with offense and defense levels or just killing/staggering the enemies before the turn begins. That's why there's no bleed, burn and sinking-related gifts in there.

Clear Mirror only works if you have a combo to generate proper poise, Sticky Muck barely exists, why put Gathering Skulls in "useful" but not the two nearly identical gifts for other damage types? How did you let your bias against Sinking get so fucking intense that you forgot about Artistic Sense letting everyone do +50% damage to abnormalities with no questions asked?

Like I said, I made it on the fly. There's a LOT of gifts that also are better to buy to inflict debuffs but I decided to filter to the ones I know and use the most in memory. The pierce ones are useful because they buff pierce skills, be it buffing next attacks on kill or placing defense down on enemies. That's why I placed them next to Resolution and Temporal Bridle. I could've place Torn Bandolier but its effects are more valuable to Ammo units and this shouldn't be that niche to get if it's in useful. Also, the player could get more poise gifts to better use Clear Mirror, getting Nebulizer is a better start than Pendant of Nostalgia. Poise Gifts always go hand in hand with Charge Gifts with giving better buffs to IDs but I also didn't want to make this more complicated.

I thought about adding them, anon. But with the existence of Negative IDs I thought it wouldn't fit the ''mindlessly doing MD'' routine. It works greatly but it also limits your picks if you forget that you're not doing a sinking team(if you really aren't).
I should've expected the EGO gift specialists when making the image...
