Honestly, I think it depends on your mindset. Aggressive players can, as you say, spam moves that are difficult to intuitively defend against, and find a decent amount of success. Players who try to play reactively and methodically will struggle even in low ranks against these sorts of players.
If you want to pick a cool character, do some combo trials, and spam these moves in ranked. You can easily hit Diamond, or even Masters, without any labbing.
If you want to play defensively, you'll constantly be overwhelmed with endless rushdown. Your only option will be to brute force matchups until you intuitively figure out through trial and error what to do against moves/characters you struggle with. If this sounds like you, you won't have much fun.
On the other hand, like I said, if you enjoy being aggressive and mixing up powerful moves, you can win easily against the scrubs you play on ranked. Be warned, however. You'll hit a brutal wall in Masters after you start facing players who labbed and are aware of your gimmicks.
I think this exact scenario happened with Tyler1, actually. The dude spammed modern controls Guile to Masters, and hit a plateau because players know how to deal with his gimmicky turtle playstyle.

The real question is, which mindset will you take? The long term "fundamental" mindset of learning frame data, footsies, neutral pressure, anti-airs, and whiff punishes?
Or will you spam a cheese strat until you hit a wall, and then quit?
