SONY SELLS CO-OWNERSHIP OF EVO!

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) sells its stake at EVO to NODWIN Gaming, an India-based esports group, also a Sony backed company which specializes in producing events for PUBG and Valorant for Sony in the rising super power.

NODWIN Gaming will join RTS in co-ownership of EVO. Sony meanwhile will continue to support EVO as a sponsor and partner through PlayStation Tournaments platform and key products that appeal to fighting game players and to spread the Playstation brand throughout all of India

EVO is gonna become a legacy tournament. It will always exist but it will be more of a fighting game exhibition than anything. Top players just aren't gonna bother flying from Japan for the chance to win a couple grand when it's not even the most prestigious tourney anymore.

For me EVO was already kind of an ad infested walking corpse with a top 6 format instead of top 8 as top 8 takes time away from ads. The games aren't as good to watch besides the nostalgia tournaments, casters are actively censored and banned if they dare to say something bad, players aren't allowed to chimp out or money match, companies don't go there anymore to reveal new games or new characters. This one was the first EVO I felt like just watching VODs afterwards.
Some eceleb should just declare CEO or Combobreaker as the new top of the crop tournament so normalfags stop regarding EVO as that tournament it used to be.

To attempt to prevent this, they gave Bungie management a large amount of money, presuming they'd invest this in dev retention through bonuses or other perks for the devs. Instead bungie execs pocketed it all and a lot of devs left.
