It's said to be one of the games ever

The entire Campanella trilogy is great. Piss-poor gamers need not apply.
Also I return to ufo 50 most often to get a quick round of deviliton in. Since the cherry is pretty much guaranteed and score chasing well beyond it is mostly rng, I aim for playing fast instead.

1 is kino
2 is frustrating at how the rng works but if you accept it it's also great
3 is just bog standard afterburner type stuff with completely unbalanced bosses

As I see comments from the 3 lesser devs about the project (Ojiro only did Seaside so I'm not mentioning him) it seems like Jon and or Derek contributed not-insignificantly to likely 90% of the games. It really was their decades-in-the-making project.

Anonymous No.718758991

Not sure, I'm not exactly an expert on either but Downwell is probably more satisfying in terms of feedback. I prefer Poinpy to Downwell though, and Seaside Drive is probably my favorite work of his unironically.

Velgress is the second shortest game in the collection behind Waldorf so it's hardly comparable to 6+ hours Downwell. But I personally didn't enjoy Downwell's odd and twitchy gameplay. Felt like one of those overrated sensations that no one actually cared about enough to remember, like Nuclear Throne

Ninpek would be sick as a full game with different levels and powerups. It has solid platforming mechanics. I tried SonSon too and it sucks lol, feels way different which should be obvious.

I do actually, I love checking MobyGames to see what directors/designers worked on before and after what I know them for. I never engaged with the metanarrative while playing the collection.
>THE GAME QUALITY DOESN'T MATTER
It does, that's why I've only Golded about half the games, because the others didn't appeal to me or were just bad (Waspir, Fist Hell, Hot Foot, Combatants, etc.)

Jon Perry and Eirik Suhrke are the heroes of UFO 50. Jon has background in boardgames and directed Mortol, Bug Hunter, Avianos, Camouflage, Party House, Rail Heist, Mini & Max and Overbold. Eirik made the whole OST and directed Mooncat, Campanella 1+2, Warptank, Onion Delivery, Rakshasa. Derek Yu, more like Derek WHO?!

Yeah. They're making a whole book to coincide with the physical switch release of the game.
It probably only has like one to three pages per game though. But it looks cool from what few pages we've seen.

This book looks so cool. Even if some of the tips could be overdoing it, its a neat idea. I was thinking about just ordering the book on its own, but after 100% the game it would just be a novelty.

UFO50 reminds me of that episode of South Park where the kids are playing Guitar Hero, and one of the old farts thinks they'll love seeing a real guitar instead of a piece of plastic, and he brings the guitar thinking it'll get the kids all excited, but they tell him to fuck off.
That's exactly how I feel when I see everyone so excited about UFO 50, but not really caring about real retro games.

I pirated it, I didn't try all the games yet. I liked Bug Hunter, but I really didn't like any of the other games yet. Magic Garden and Golfaria were especially fucking dogshit. Planet Zoldath just feels like a really weird and shit randomized zelda. Magic Garden barely even controls right, I end up running into things because she doesn't turn when I want her to. The other games are alright but just not my taste. I don't like super difficult games that send you all the way back to beginning with only 3 lives like contra style. Attactics is actually a little fun and its nice it saves your progress. Kick Club is alright and Bushido Ball is actually pretty sick I guess but more fun with friends than CPU.

>I don't like super difficult games that send you all the way back to beginning with only 3 lives like contra style
If you don't like that arcade/nes style of game, you should play the games on the bottom row first and work yourself upwards.
Try Mini & Max or something. Half the games in the collection (or rather two thirds) aren't like that. They're just the bulk of the games in the upper rows.

I love the vibes of rakshasa so much, there's something so creepy about it that I can't place. Probably my favorite game in the set

I really wish they did a more significant overarching plot or some kind of meta game like Hypnospace Outlaw or something, that would have elevated it to a 10 for me

every game in it is great, although your enjoyment of the earlier titles will hinge a lot on how much you like arcade stuff and the first will either filter you or be one of your favorites

magic garden was one of my favorites, felt a lot like something you'd actually play in an arcade (the turning especially feels kind of reminiscent of how it feels in pac man); at the end of the day there's so much variety that different people will like very different things, consider playing some lower row stuff if you want more modernized game design

You're timing your turns wrong. It gives you a lot of time to plan and input your movement so don't wait until the last second.
