I enjoyed Ender Lilies quite a bit. But I still think you're insane for this.
Ender Lilies is carried pretty hard by its atmosphere. It's got decently satisfying boss fights and it's got serviceable platforming. But it's also kind of stiff and neither the level design or the game's secrets really does anything that stands out.
I'll get around to trying Magnolia in due time. But currently I've been playing Shadow Labyrinth, and outside of the atmosphere (which is all over the place in Shadow Labyrinth), Shadow Labyrinth feels surprisingly similar to Ender Lilies but improved in most of every regard. From level design, secrets, progression, and both movement and combat. But just like Ender Lilies, it's still kind of stiff and jank.
But I would easily rank Hollow Knight a lot higher. Its movement and combat is smooth. It's actually a great platformer (even though few areas, sadly, leans into this aspect of the game). The variation and intensity of the enemies and boss fights is also very praise worthy. And the way the world branches out exponentially as you explore was done very successfully.
I'll repeat though. I genuinely like Ender Lilies and would give it a good score. But the idea of enjoying it a lot more than Hollow Knight is just wild to me. Almost smells of dishonesty. I mean how? Looks like contrarianism.
Could you even elaborate? Is it just the atmosphere? Because Ender Lilies certainly has a distinct and different vibe from Hollow Knight. But if that makes such a difference to you, then you'd have to be a very shallow gamer.
