If anything, it was one of the big players in painting people's perception of RPG Maker games as walking simulator horror shit, rather than people making actual good RPGs.
Garbage like this has done major damage to the RPG Maker engine as a whole while simultaneously devaluing actual RPGs made on the platform.

It's not. It's only highly regarded because survival horror was dead in the mainstream at the time, due to garbage like action evil 6 and the western silent hills, so rpg maker games like Ib were the best you could get. Plus they were free.
