Video games are too expensive for even moderate appeal anymore. People can get so much cheap entertainment that paying $80 for a game seems excessive. GTA VI will be the first sign. People are just playing fewer games as well, the days of people owning and playing many different games to completion is done. People just play Roblox forever.

Feel like games are more cheap than ever. Or maybe I just have more money than before

There's an oversaturation of media in general, price isn't an issue you can get almost everything for free.

Subscription based services like Gamepass will be the future of gaming.

There is piracy and decades of used cheap physical media, most people have already collected a lot, lots of shit is f2p, lots of fun games are dirt cheap, steam constantly puts everything on absurd sales, while aaa console slop comes out for 60 and then nintendo never puts it on sale sony barely ever slightly marks it down and no ones on xbox but the people who are just use game pass

And the industry has spent a few gens back to back pandering to people who literally dont like games

It's a double edged sword.
Normally, I buy 5-6 full prices games per year, give or take depending on what comes out.
But I recently got laid off and spent the summer playing multiplayer games I already own to avoid spending any extra money.
So I can understand why people would say "how can a full price game compete with free alternatives like fortnite" and the answer is going to vary for all sorts of subjective reasons.
It does upset me that people blame children for being obsessed with Roblox and Minecraft or whatever when thats where their friends are and their parents simply can't afford to give their child expensive single player games. It's a natural byproduct.

I don't know how a kid can get a $500 Switch 2 and get $70 games afterwards. That's almost too much even for a once a year birthday gift for a nine year old

I'm under the impression that the AAA studios would rather die than to downsize to PS2-gen scale and profits.

They would HAVE to die, dumbass. Why don't you check how many employees a AAA studio has vs a "PS2-gen scale" studio like Sandfall?

Definitely. They would rather it be 2035, no AAA games come out, barely any indies come out, and they just wax nostalgic about how Red Dead Redemption 2 had shrinking horse balls. Just pine for those days and marvel at such skill like a medieval peasant looking at the ruins of Rome. They'd rather have this than make smaller games
