>play Pokémon Yellow back in 1998, start watching the anime next year, including the movie, and collecting the pogs
>gen 2 was mindblowing, gen 3 was really fun and looked even better on gba
>lose interest in the anime, lose interest in the games
>get into the tcg for a brief moment in the 2010s, end up realizing its shit as a game and I only care about the art, not even collecting them
>everything Pokémon becomes shit, devoid of soul, and wasted potential
>finally start reading this last week out of curiosity with all the ZA fuzz
>its the best Pokémon media ever made
After all this years, I found it again....the SOUL. Even Satoshi says its the closest to what he has in mind when he created this satanic shit. Too bad the games keep doing the bare minimum.

I was in a similar place OP, kinda dislike what GF is currently putting out (starting with Sword/Shield) but picking up Pokemon Adventures kinda healed my love for the franchise.
It's very dynamic and you can feel a real love for the games, the writer was even ahead of time and adressing things in fucking gen 1 that the actual games would only adress in gen 5, he put a lot of thought into it.
Just as a heads up, beginning of the Yellow arc is a bit slow but it really pays off in the end because the final arc is very hype, in general the gen1-5 arcs are quite strong for different reasons, the only thing gimping the newer gens is that the release schedule got a bit wack so they have less volumes of build up compared to older gens.

The way I read was reading a full volume > then reading its respective livewatch thread, it adds a bit of entertaninment and trivias to the experience (some drawfags even make fanart):

Not OP, but added the first thread to my bookmarks on my tablet, thanks m8. As an old /co/fag I always enjoy a good storytime. Shame /v/ is no fun allowed when it comes to those these days.

Yeah its good. Was obsessed with this manga when I was younger. Funnily enough I read it before I ever touched the games. Mom wouldnt buy me pokemon games. So I later learned to pirate them from a friend.

So opposite relationship where I read pokemon before played it. Kids are retarded so they get obsessed with trash, but I dont regret reading Pokemon, made the world of Pokemon seem much more grander and epic than anything else could. Id catch the same pokemon as the protags.

Pokemon games are shit tho, 99% certain they were carried by me pretending I was going on the same kind of adventure as in the manga.

I really liked the Gen 4 arc. I should read Black/White at some point.

GF messed up the comp aspect of it. We could have had pokemon evo tier tournaments. In their respect, I have no idea how you would make pokemon a comp meta without it being boring or too one sided

I'm about to start the FRLG arc and then Emerald arc, I keep hearing Emerald arc is like the black sheep of the series but knowing Gen4 is good will probably keep me going.

Emerald arc is amazing just the ending is the problem.

I didn't want to spoil it for him but yeah that's the biggest issue people have with it. And also that Emerald's design is goofy.

I like Adventures but idk how to feel about the BW arc, they changed N a lot. It's probably the only gen where i prefer the game story to the manga's one

What about reading Gold/Silver, Ruby/Saphire first and so on, and then going back to those "continuations", like Yellow, Crystal, etc?

Events from Yellow are very important to Gold/Silver, in the same way the Crystal arc is literally just "Gold/Silver second part", you would finish in a cliffhanger if you finished GS but stopped before Crystal.
Even if some arcs could be valid starting points, I think release order is the simplest path with less complications. Just start with gen 1, then gen 2, etc.

Totally my experience. Fell out of the series, got really into the manga and it compelled me to replay every gen up to Gen 8. Reading the manga at the same as playing the games really elevates the experience honestly. There's a shitload of autistic details that reveal the mangaka as a huge Pokemon nerd. The teams Emerald use in the Battle Frontier might seem kinda weird, like using a Phanpy in the Battle Pyramid. But it's got Pickup as an ability, and the Battle Pyramid actually has an entirely unique item table for Pokemon with the Pickup ability. There's so much neat shit in terms of manga details.

>>718775954
Zero reason to do this. The manga actually has a timeline that's generally important to the narrative, unlike the games where, yeah, playing a third version of a game would be a good reason to revisit an old generation.

>>718771956
DP's honestly the peak, but the rest of the arcs afterwards are pretty good. Except the remake arcs, I can understand why the mangaka didn't bother with BDSP lol.

I quit playing Pokémon official shit after sumo.
I want to be harsh because it's a trillion dollar enterprise, but then I see other creature collector games and its like nobody fucking gets it which only further reinforces the global pokehegemony. The problem is always that there's this weird hyper fixation on NEW MONSTERS and never how to better integrate the monsters into further RPG systems.
Pokemon should get a new game every 6 months that's a different genre, we could have pokediablo, pokerts, poke survival crafting, pokeracing, poketownbuilding, pokefighting, and mainline Pokémon with actual advancements
Spare me the "BUT WE GOT POKESPINOFFS!" yeah, we got Pokémon Tekken one time 10 years ago, bravo!
