If you have to ask, then it's not a good game. Only journalist retards say it's anywhere near the top 100. Story was terrible, read the book, combat is terrible and clunky, map overall is shit to traverse. The only thing moving it up from a 2/10 to a 4 is Gwent.

it's great, just a shame how dumbed down choice and (mainly) dialogue is compared to the previous two. I also feel the main story actually ends kind of too quickly after ciri reaches novigrad.

My Issues with TW3's World

I know a lot of people give Bethesda shit for making amusement park worlds, but after playing KCD 1 and 2, The witcher worlds also feel like dollhouses/sets
like everything is placed just for you, instead of existing naturally (as it should feel).

Everything is too close together.

I get that they have to do it because it’s a game, but at times, it feels immersion breaking to go from castles to swamps full of bandits in no time.

I don't think you know what visual novel/movie game insults mean. Witcher 3 is like 90% gameplay, 10% cutscenes, it's definitely not a movie game.. Compare that to some actual visual novel/movie game like Persona 5 where there is 20% gameplay, 80% cutscenes. We need to be honest here. Skyrim is not a movie game either even when it's like Witcher 3 except less impressive chats with NPCs.

Its one of my favorites.
If the combat was more complex would be a perfect 10/10 for me.
Some of the sidequests alone have enough plot to be the main quest of their own games.

Love the characters
Love the setting

9/10. No ammount of /v/ gaslight can make me dislike this game.

You are constantly exploring the world or progressing objectives, the dialogue is there just to provide the context. There are some in-depth conversations with more important characters at times, but mostly you have quick chats with people before running off to kill some monster, just like in any other western RPG.

Only the Ciri segments are just bullshit.

I like it, even if it has a lot of the shitty trends of the 2010s in it. Also, they did Radovid fucking dirty. I've only ever played the games, so maybe it's different in the books, but the lodge seemed incredibly malicious to me. The world is fine, the npcs are not. This is most apparent in the starting area, where each npc has a set line and activity they will repeat no matter how many times you ride past.
This is something KCD does so much better. Each npc has their own schedule, they don't just stay in one spot waiting for you to go past, and most people you interact with will treat you differently based on whether they have a positive or negative opinion of Henry.

On paper it feels good, but it’s wasteful. RPGs have this forever war going on where they want the player to be able to do and be anything/everything.

Witcher puts you in the shoes of Geralt, and his history as a Witcher. NPC schedules don’t matter, what matters is player choice in the moment.

Witcher npcs also go to sleep, the problem is that they don't have a life outside of playing the part of window dressing. For example the kid singing about the Emperor, whether it is morning, afternoon or evening, he is at the same spot singing the same song before his dad interrupts him.

It’s a genuine post. Focus on game design is more important than large systems meant to offer immersion.

It’s an older idea that started from GTA3, the whole,
>what if you could walk inside every single house and talk to every npc

In the end, it doesn’t offer anything at scale. It only works when the characters have direct bearing on something.

Witcher 3 and CP2077 are so bad I will never buy a game made in the country of Poland again. I am beginning to become extremely disillusioned with both the quality of rpgs in general, and both old and new games in the genre are becoming distasteful. The extreme lack of quality in RPG threads and their extremely repetitive nature.also reflects those feelings. I could never play an rpg again and I'd be totally fine. I try to play at least a bit of everything, but this is the one genre that really, really feels like complete newfag casual aids and there's no saving it. Even old games that are discussed are just stuff for the laziest people doing the bare minimum to orbit video game discussion.

Why would you ever do that? Turning POIs off is one of the first things I did, made it much more fun if I stumbled on one naturally. And who the fuck follows the road? This game is all about treading off the beaten path.
>where you kill 10 drowners by mashing 1 ability over and over
You need more imagination. Yes, you can beat the game by just mashing light attack (especially on lower difficulties) but that's so boring, why would you do that to yourself. I liked drawing the monsters to a explosive barrel, setting it alight at the right moment so they would all go flying.
