Hey I just got it yesterday as well and will play it later. Hope the tutorial scenario will be enlightening

game is in utter shambles. Its all stats, heros, spells and campaign gimmicks that ultimately resolve to "+50% dmg omg". Unit utility in battles is almost nil and nonexistent at the campaign level.

Step 0: recruit 20 garbage units
Step 1: conquer all of your starting province
Step 2: build growth
Step 3: have your army sack nearby cities multiple times
Step 3.5: remember more battles = more experience for your general and extra money
Step 4: once your province is fully grow build switch to economic buildings and barracks
Step 5: make your first doomstack (add at least a mage they are OP)
Step 6: conquer your neighbours
Step 7: make more economic buildings(all your province except your capital must have economic buildings and agent spamming ones)
Step 8: repeat step 5 with another army and conquer everything

Louen is usually fighting Be'lakor in the early-mid game. It's a 50/50 whether he colonizes Albion or gets wrecked. Fay Enchantress is fighting and dying to Ikit Claw unless you turn on minor faction potential at which point Skrag will rape Ikit and become part of the ordertide for some reason.
