Bloodborne chalice dungeons
>procedurally generated
>boring recycled bosses
>accessible straight from the hubworld no running simulator needed
>optional side content, mostly just for grinding echoes, consumables and maybe good bloodgems here and there

Elden Ring mini dungeons
>NOT procedurally generated, somehow still all rook the same
>boring recycled bosses
>need to run around empty wastelands just to find one
>contains some of the best weapons etc, basically mandatory if you donโ€™t want to gimp yourself

Which one is the better design choice for future games?

i find chalice dungeons more interesting, the fact that it feels like a unknowable labyrinth and have exclusive enemies that i never saw in the normal game made it feel worth exploring

The elden ring ones are a step up
The "main" chalice dungeons are so zero effort that I would never do them again or interact with it beyond spamming that one dungeon for blood echos

Genuine dogshit mechanic in what i consider a good game

here's an idea to bring both together

>decrease plains size in open world map while keeping roughly same number of dungeons/caves
>leave legacy dungeons as is
>caves and dungeons have hand-built maps
>procedurally generate "missions" for the player with randomized enemy distributions and objectives inside of lesser caves/dungeons they have cleared already

Elden Ring minor dungeons model. Number 1 I like the places I explore to have some meaning, even if the reward is useless to me just finding some stuff with archeological value for the world makes it interesting. 2 hand made dungeons will always always be better than procedurally generated, there are a lot of unremarkable caves in Elden Ring but there are some that I actually do vividly remember because they have some cool gimmick or puzzle, actually a lot of them I do like. I can't remember a single Chalice dungeon I enjoyed they're all miserable. Number 3, and this is the most important part, Elden Ring minor dungeons are exactly that, they're small dungeons. They vary in size but you're still spending maybe an hour max on one.

Chalice dungeons have you go through so much bullshit, multiple floors with side areas on each side of each floor, and for what? There is nothing in them, it's just more wandering about to look for ritual materials.

Elden Ring dungeons are fun, and I'm tired of people constantly shitting on them. They're the places that are always full of traps and ambushes, which makes them fun to explore and clear room by room. They often have hidden rooms and cool gimmicks. That one dungeon that just has near identical layers meant to confuse you into thinking you're running in circles was some of the most fun I've had in the game.
I still enjoyed the Chalice Dungeons in Bloodborne every now and then, and I think they do have place in future games, too. I think Nightreign would be more fun if it had you go through dungeons like that, instead of the barely changing open world, for example.
