She has the highest native Magic stat and has access to really good exclusive equipment (namely the Angel Brush and Nutkin Suit). But Sketch is completely useless, Terra can do more damage with Trance, and Celes is really good overall since she can equip the Lightbringer, heavy armor, and nullify spells with Runic. Relm's a top-tier character, but she's arguably not the best among your mages. Setzer and Locke can also get into some crazy shenanigans with the Master's Scroll that potentially puts them ahead of the girls (though you only get one Master's Scroll so one of them will always get shafted). And then there's Gau, who's just broken if you know what Rages to get.

Half of FFVI's characters can make a legitimate claim to being the best party member, really.

The Saga games are dramatically different in each installment. I haven't played them in decades, but IIRC on their face they have a similar combo system to Gears. But by leveling up your "finishers" you could assign them to earlier parts of the combo and spam shit like Jr.'s Storm Waltz and KOS-MOS' X-Buster for free and trivialize all regular encounters. You had Gear equivalents but I don't remember them being all that important outside of some mandatory boss fights.

And I can't remember why, but I remember XS2's battle system changing things so that every fight took goddamn forever, making the whole experience a tedious waste of time that I was glad to see end. XS3 was a lot better but the sense of "Oops, we got cancelled and we have to somehow cram in as much as possible," brought down the experience.

Honestly I wouldn't even say they're worth playing.

More gears than blade, first entry is "what if we did the deathblow system but with very slow animations and you can level them up" which makes the combat extremely slow plus the boost turn system where each character has a bar they fill and can exchange for one extra turn at any time
Second ditches that and introduces break zones, you need to attack in certain patterns to "break" an enemy and start dealing real damage, you can extend the damage and time stunned by launching them with attacks that only certain characters have (does this sound familiar)
It also introduced the "stock" system where you could guard to use an extra attack in the next turn, usually to break an enemy by doing the correct pattern and it also made it so Boost isn't an individual gauge but universal for the whole party which was a welcome change, sadly this made it so combat against multiple enemies took forever (it was great for bosses though)
I still haven't played 3 so I can't tell you about that one

3 went with a vanilla JRPG system (probably because of how much 2's system was hated) with attacks doing HP damage and Break damage and you broke enemies by filling up their break gauge.

I think the hate for 2's system was overblown though, I remember reading reviews of 2 before buying it and loads of people were complaining about how you "had to" guard for full stock every single battle. But that's bullshit, as long as you had half a brain you could clear normal fights more efficiently than that. The real disgrace in 2 was the change in character designs towards more realism after the heavily anime style of 1, which made the female characters look so much uglier (funnily the guys looked basically the same). 3 found a happy medium and I thought they looked the best there
