You know who cares about the player count? the developers. If they aren't making enough sales, then you know layoffs are going to happen and the worst case is total shutdown of the studio.

I go off streamer count. Nobody streaming the game? Probably not worth playing. Some niche games have that one streamer with 60000 hours in the game who always stream to the void. If there's none of that, not playing.

Steamchart posting actually is faggy though
>people finish the game
>as people finish the game they stop playing
>”oh no no no it’s over”

Most metrics you can use to track a game are totally worthless.
Black Dick Wukangz apparently had a zillion people playing it with the same habits as a multiplayer game for over a month despite having like 40 hours of shit to do max.
Whiny 100k+ TF2 youtubers claim that only 5 people play it because the people that do play the game don't like them
Deltarune crashed Steam when it came out.
And it's currently a giant hole billions of tax and investor dollars are dumped into to make plausibly fake comments on "multi million view" videos online using llms.

I'd have to say though, since the incentive structures are completely different it at least makes it obvious when people ARE bullshitting about how popular a game is.
Since it makes people unable to actually discuss games like a hard r gamer would.

>hide the playercount so consumers don't know when they're buying a dead game
brilliant plan my fellow kikes

appropiate since it seems you are going to kill yourself over it

Rather than what they're doing now which is providing you a completely worthless "player count" number and hoping you're so oblivious you can't use other factors to determine if people actually play a game.

I mean false advertising IS a crime for a reason.
It's a small price to pay to not hear a midwit claim yet again that some retard thinks
>90 thousand heckin steamies are REALLY playing Banana
And not that you can leave it running in the background or that the developers aren't known for multiple scams and are on like their fifth different developer account.
