Very. But they require some up front enjoyment before they really become fun. You have to develop muscle memory for them and unfortunately almost none of it is shared with other game genres. So as a newbie you’ll feel clumsy like you’ve never played games before.
I've been trying to get into some SNK fighters and currently the only two I'm decent at so far are Garou: Mark of the Wolves and KOF 97. Anyone got any advice of some sorts on whether I'm missing out on their other fighters or should I just stick to getting better at these two?

Samurai Shodown games are pick up andbplay friendly if you want to check them out. Once you learn one KOF picking up the other ones comes relatively quickly due to basically keeping all of the old combo ideas intact.

SNK fighters will never have huge level of regular engagement for netplay. It's fine though as you can still regularly find matches in most of their modern releases thanks to crossplay.

It's 2001, I remember nothing really, but:
If he had the fireball super in that game, that. Otherwise the shoryuken or, if the koreans still used SNK style hit boxes, a well placed crouching strong fist probably would have allowed him to touch floating Chang without being hurt.
The super he uses is terrible to toss against a glitch.
>>718786279 >Guilty gear continues it's age old tradition of having the most retarded secondaries
Out of curiosity what did you THINK he looked like dumbass? What did he look like in the art of him you jacked off too?
>>718791090
I'm aware, but from his positioning it looks like he was also able to go for a meaty j.S that would safe jump the IK. Seems like a needless risk to go for 3P when there's a far safer alternative and you already have a massive life lead on the opponent.

Yes, as long as you don't play with other people.
If you ever find me at a fighting game tournament like EVO or whatever it's because I'm shooting up the place with an assault rifle.

My brother explained to me why modern fighting games are bad, in his opinion. Apparently, they all have a mechanic that I forgot the name of, but according to my brother, it's to allow insane comebacks like that viral video of Daigo.
>>718791509
Yeah shills claimed I wouldn't have bought it anyways when I said Ronaldo and DJ Who turned me off, but I just completely stopped caring about the game once they were revealed.
>>718791509
yeah but you're not even remotely a normalfag so it's not even about you and your anti guest characterism
most normal people just looked at the game and said it was too ugly to live
>>718791509 >>718791632
Yeah I really would like to know how they thought adding him and the DJ would ever help or atleast who else at snk thought they were good ideas. The 2nd beta playerbase after they announced the guests was half the 1st one. Why not just put Chun and Ken as the base guests instead?
Ronaldo sucks dick. That's all there is to it.
Salvatore is okay because he's the most unknown celebrity of all time and I literally only know him because of his appearance in Fatal Fury.
>>718792250 >"necessary to have a world-famous star"
Shit, why not get Taylor Swift or someone like that instead then? At least she's a hot young girl and there's already already lots of hot young girl "pop stars-ish" characters in SNK.
>>718791509
Both >>718791632 and >>718792002 are correct.
My interest in the game was also heavily dampened when they announced Ronaldo, and it got even worse when they confirmed the DJ
I don't mind guest characters, but when those guest characters are literal, real people then yeah, that's retarded. I'm still planning to get the game now I'm in no rush to do so.
Also like >>718792002 said, the average casual is a tasteless retard who loves photo realism and will not spend a second looking at a game that does not try to look that way so they immediately wrote it off.
>>718782537 (OP)
SOME fighting games are fun. i have a lot of fun playing super turbo or virtua fighter 5. but that's it, i really do not like any other game. realistically once you learn the genre it's about shifting through what mechanics you hate and what you like and finding something that appeals to you.
>>718792504
I don't know what Taylor Swift is like as a person but I somehow doubt she or her managers would green light an appearance in which a full gallery of muscular dudes beat the SHIT out of her.
Are there any fighting games that offer a good single-player experience, like beat 'em ups, for example? I want something I can play against the computer.
Oh, is she really? I don't know anything about pop music. I just know she's a girl on the radio and all the mainstream media says she's the most famous pop starlet alive so I guess it must be true.
>>718793210
I was imagining a game where fighting against AI wasn't so annoying and so different from normal gameplay. Because I feel like fighting games are 100% designed for player vs. player, and the computer just cheats all the time and doesn't play in an organic or interesting way. So I wanted something that had the style of a traditional fighting game, but was more focused on the single player experience.
>>718791509
Ronaldo and Salvatore certainly didn't help, but it's also hard to take all the people that were hyping it up at face value. I'm sure some people genuinely would have played it if not for those two, because they do feel like very distasteful inclusions and it's easy enough to see people not liking them being there, but I doubt the game would have done much better if it were just Freeman and Andy instead or something.
>>718792667
Guilty Gear Judgment is an okay beat 'em up that tries to keep character movesets intact as best it can, but really I think trying to play a fighting game for the singleplayer is misguided to begin with. Some or better than others, but they're all designed to be a fighting game first and foremost, and it's a genre to be made to be played against others.
>>718792516 > tasteless retard who loves photo realism
And in this case, they aren't completely wrong. SNK always aimed for stylized realism, way more than capcom for example. I'd love a photo realistic samsho too https://youtu.be/C16bwCMo0QY?feature=shared
>>718794058
Yeah I guess, Shinkiro made a shitload of realistic depictions of the Fatal Fury cast despite those games being very much anime-like in terms of presentation.
>>718782537 (OP) >summer vacation between junior and senior year of hs >birthday party thing at friends house >he had guilty gear >little impromptu tourney breaks out with like 8 of us >he starts doing IKs on people >people start doing IKs back >whole thing devolves into who can IK who first >continues until like 3am
That shit was funny
