Subnautica 2 Leaders Fired
>Korean PUBG publisher Krafton buys Unknown Worlds (Subnautica dev) for $500,000,000
>Orders Subnautica 2 developed with planned EA release
>years pass
>the 3 top execs of Unknown Worlds are abruptly fired early July 2025
>they then launch a lawsuit against Krafton claiming they were deliberately delaying EA in order to avoid paying them $225,000,000 bonus if the game met certain sales figures
>Krafton responded by saying the game was nowhere near EA readiness as the development had stalled
>Krafton claims they found out the 3 execs, who were supposed to be leading the active dev team, were absent from the project and spent most of their time working on personal side projects
>A leaked dev document shows the continuous decline of developmental scope since 2023, lending credence to the claim that development had slowed to a crawl without active leadership
>Unknown Worlds has now sued the 3 former execs for downloading up to 90,000 confidential company files shortly before leaving the company after they were terminated
I'm on the side of Krafton with this one. The former execs are woke liberals and it looks like they thought they could scam their publisher out of 225 million dollars. Krafton responding to their lawsuit by saying they have "resorted to litigation to demand a payday they haven't earned" is absolutely bang on. They thought they could relax and fuck around with personal projects and the team would do all the work, meet the bonus requirements after release due to the success of the 1st game, and they could sail off into the sunset as multimillionaires.

I don't know why this is so difficult. I will try to quarterback this.
>Systematically develop biomes using a vector for needs/affordances and a vector for landscape type.
Example: You have different needs for surviving in a particular biome. An arctic biome would require heat to keep you from freezing to death. A geothermal biome would require cooling to stop you from boiling alive. In either of those biomes you can have different landscape types such as plains or caverns or forests. You can cross these vectors and produce areas of varying difficulty that require different tech trees. This provides variety and lets the player choose how they explore. Different biomes also afford access to different materials.
Doing this is a systematic approach rather than just naming and crafting the each biome one at a time by hand. You can do something similar with wildlife generation. In an open-world game like this you don't want to spend time hand-building everything. You need to embrace systems and procedural generation, but with enough artistic sensibility to make it look great and enough design sensibility for it to work with gameplay.

I actually thought about a game like this, exploring a series of planets with dozens of different hazard types. You would need different gear to survive against different conditions such as
>extreme water pressure (deep sea)
>extreme air pressure / density (like on jupiter)
>uv radiation
>gamma radiation
>x rays
>the vacuum of space

I don't care and the goodwill that was dropped from autismos hating the early access of BZ, which then poisoned the whole development, would tell me that you don't really care either.
Anyway it looks okay, I'm not going to hold my breath the multi-player aspect is a huge red flag.

On the one hand, offering them 225 million in bonuses was a blunder. Kraftom unlikely ever planned to pay it, from the moment they decided they wanted the IP. There isnt really proof one way or another if development slowed.

Yeah that seems insanely high to pay just 3 people. It sounds too good to be true, and the 3 execs should have anticipated an incoming grift. Guess one of them at least was too busy making an AI slop christmas movie.

I guess so?
It all comes down to them telling Krafton the game was ready for EA, and Krafton then looking at it and saying, "Not even close." I'd probably believe the developers if it wasn't for the leaked dev document showing that each year features that were planned for EA kept decreasing more and more which tells you the team barely had anything developed after years. That's just not excusable.
