character unlocks are RNG, vehicle unlocks are just more or less timegated, getting to play 3 round courses online is RNG, no vehicle customization (not even the COLOR), hidden stats out of the ass
learning the maps shortcuts is fun and the grinding feels great but that's literally all it has. kinda done with the game after 20 hours maybe. hope for a MKW Deluxe in the next year

All they had to do was make a mode where a start/end point get randomly selected and you race across the map in any way you choose. No out of bounds or any invisible walls. No tracks or circuits or "intermissions". You can go straight if you want but there will likely be obstacles or grass to slow you down so it's not always optimal.

And offer a classic mode with normal circuits.

I am no god at Mario Kar 8 Deluxe, I don't do time trials nor know all the shortcuts, but even then, I found myself top 6 or even top 3 in most of the races that I tried online because the track design allowed for all players to have a shot at winning, even if you didn't pick meta characters or karts.
