Altair, it seems my students do not fully understand what is to post in a Assassins creed thread

Perhaps you can show them what you know

I don’t even really like AC2 anymore. AC1 is the only one of these that I enjoy.

You know why I absolutely love AC1? Its the only one that feels like the real main game. Like you get to see THE assassins creed. Everything else feels like a spin-off. Assassins Creed but in (some absolutely fucking cool setting)

Ezio is likable enough, but his story is kind of a mess, or at least AC2 is.

I never "got" AC. Why not make a good melee combat system?

A lot of AAA games struggle with combat systems, but combat isn’t really the point of AC. It’s supposed to be about escaping pursuers.

I remember being excited when the pursuers were actually strong enough to be "you don't want to fight these, at least not for long" type enemies, like the agents in Enter the Matrix. Because it made the stakes feel real.

I tried imposing all sorts of honor system challenges on myself to make combat more interesting but unconsciously I always knew I could indefinitely kill 10,000 guards with my stats/gear in the first 30 minutes of the game, and of course sometimes you get bored and do just that for a while.

I only played AC1 and 2 and have no interest in any of the games with RPG elements. Is unity decent if I just want to assassinate people and run around a historic city?

I think they kind of missed the point. Altair should be able to take on at most two guys and anything beyond three becomes too difficult. They did a whole thing in one of the early demos about tearing down scaffolding to block routes; I wonder what happened with that.
Anonymous No.718793521

I think Origins is the best game in the series, but it loses so much of its identity that it’s hard to call it an AC game. The first one is the one I have the most fun with because Unity has garbage UI.
Anonymous No.718793905
>>718792940
Unity is extremely flawed but I'd say it's still worth playing, at least as a curiosity. They did good work with Paris.
>>718792849
Yeah, the low difficulty is definitely an issue since it discourages stealth. Unless you want to do it for its own sake you end up with a slower and more difficult solution to the same issue.
It does make for a fun subversion in AC Brotherhood when you fight the Borgia Captains, though, since they'll counter all your counterattacks in a needlessly fancy fashion. Ezio finally found someone that can out-Ezio him. Of course there's still ways to one-shot them, but it's fun that it's there at all.
IMO no AC really succeeds at making satisfying difficulty, since Unity mostly makes use of stat bloat and the very annoying feature where melee enemies are completely trivial but the moment you get a third opponent he'll start spamming pistol shots at you, which you can only avoid via rolling or attacking them, making things take even longer. And if you try to disengage you can't roll anymore, so you'll get shot unless you manage to put a wall in between

Is this level of parkoue possible IRL? Nothing by itself looks too unrealistic, maybe the wallruns into side eject, don't think you'd have that much impulse when you can't make it another step off the wall
Anonymous No.718795150
>>718794034
Yeah, really the only thing it is needed for are a handful of those stupid side missions, but you can probably get away with using the map. Playing without the HUD made me realize you can tell the districts apart by the architecture, the types of NOCs in the streets, and even the types of guards in the case of Acre.

That's fairly common. The games do a poor job of explaining their mechanics, most you're taught is back ejects since they're used often in Assassin tombs. It's why so many struggled with the AltaΓ―r tower climb in 2. All you need to do is a side eject off a wallrun or a standing jump into empty hand, it's really simple, but the game doesn't teach you well.

I'm playing Black Flag right now for the first time.
For a game that people say "OMFG IT'S THE BEST AC GAME AND THE BEST PIRATE GAME EVAH" it's really underwhelming.
Pirate shit is kinda cool I guess, at least for the first few hours until you realize how repetitive and simple the gameplay loop is.
Storyline is absolute dogshit though. Like, I don't expect every game to reach The Witcher 3 or RDR tier storytelling, but goddamn, I can't recall a single character or give a fuck about anything that's going on. Cutscenes just bore me and everyone besides Edward is just so fucking bland and uninteresting.

he just realized that all this tiime, his entire life he wasnt the main guy, he was just a messanger. His job was finished at that point.
