This thread is more circlejerk and shitpost than anything, but let me put this here for shits and giggles:
Recently I came up with a very funky theory regarding Odyssey's ending, or rather, people's reception towards it. I couldn't wrap my head around why so many people missed the context of the skit and thought Peach rejected Mario's proposal as oppose to his (and Bowser's) behavior. I realized part of it is shitpost or surface-level thinking, but that wasn't convincing enough... Then I had a realization after talking to a fellow shipper after she made a comment regarding "dudebros."

The reason people don't understand the moon scene is because they are not looking at it through the lenses of women logic.

Think about this: Two men fervently fight each other for a woman's affection, looking more invested in their fighting than the woman herself. Men are prideful creatures (on average) so it isn't uncommon for competitiveness to sideline any other motive two men may clash about, like a woman's affection. Under these circumstances, no woman in their right mind would make a choice because at that point the woman is a mere object, rather than the objective. By logic, Peach made the right choice calling Mario and Bowser out and leaving.
...Now swap the genders: Two women fervently fighting for a man's affection. Most women, being emotional creatures, don't sideline affection as easily than a man, they are prideful still, but women would still hold the man as the prime objective regardless of pride. Under these circumstances, the most logical thing for a man to do is make the choice, because he is not being sidelined, he is still the the women's objective.

This is ultimately why people miss the context of the scene, because they only see it in the context of themselves being presented with Peach's choice with genders swapped, unaware that human logic also changes once you swap the genders... apart from surface level thinking and shitpost, of course.

Still, for the context of this particular situation, it's not really a matter of Peach choosing against their proposals, but rather dismissing the choice due to their behavior getting on her nerves (I mean the whole scene is about Peach getting fed up), which is exactly what I'm talking about in this whole ramble. It's a Donkey Kong game. There's no Princess Peach in the DK games. There isn't even anything particularly wrong with assuming Jumpman (Mario) and Lady (Pauline) got together, but this whole line of reasoning with Peach and tying this new Pauline back to the Super Mario games is flawed. The DK games have nothing to do with the Mario games other than the fact that they spun off from the same series of Donkey Kong arcade games. Princess Peach and Bowser do not exist anywhere in the DKC universe. They're entirely separate.

DK is closer to a human than regular apes, with his intellect and human-like expressions (he also wears ties, signifying the human side of him).
Pauline Jr is the moment where ape has evolved into a human, successfully done by race mixing with human, this is why Pauline Jr is important to DK bananza, franchise about Apes, and the reason why she took the central stage despite her not being an ape.
That's also clear from the dad-vibes DK gives in the entire game, like if she was Mario's kid, why would they let another man raise her? DK is clearly her REAL father.

So basically, three things here.

1. "Paulette" is Mario and Pauline's daughter. Ignoring that Nintendo would never allow such a thing, there's an obvious flaw; why the fuck would Mario and Pauline name their daughter Pauline?

2. Paulette is just young Pauline and Bananza is a 'prequel'. This is obviously more likely given Pauline's whole gimmick is singing. The similarities to Mario are just references.

3. You're putting more thought into it than the devs did. They just thought it'd be fun to have Pauline as the companion to DK and made her a kid because it would be more marketable. This is by far the likely scenario, though it doesn't discount the second point.
