You can download the original PS1 and PS2 games from Myrient

You can play them using Retroarch and the Beetle PSX (software) and LRPS2 (parallel-gs) cores respectively, preferably with integer scaling and a CRT shader.

Silent Hill 4 got re-released with better controller support/widescreen/anti-aliasing/bug fixes etc. It's on GOG so it's easy to demo it for yourself.

I never understood the dislike for the Apartments area in SH2. It's a great intro to a horror game. Claustrophobic, dark, confusing, surreal. A lot of iconic moments happen there too.

Yeah, after your 5th run you know what rooms to check and what you can skip, but it is kinda poorly designed, too same-facey, and even has some blatantly poor, artificial "road block" if you miss the two NPC meetups during your journey.
