this guy is correct. first time i downloaded linux, it was linux mint in like 2016 and like apparently the ISO i downloaded from THEIR OFFICIAL WEBSITE had a fucking like trojan or virus or some shit in it. and then the second time i try linux, it was in like 2021. i needed an OS for gaming so i got pop_os and all i did to brick my pc was download stream. that was all it took to break it. now i was pretty disillusioned at this point and didnt touch linux again until this year when i tried arch which is supposedly the "best" distro. so i installed it, downloaded firefox, and the next day, im notified that there was a fucking virus or some shit in one of the libraries on the package manager or some shit. i swear linux is so fucking trash like dont even try this shit and save yourself the headache

What the fuck are you babbling about? Ubuntu is easily the worst of the major distros for gaming because of the ancient packages. For gaming the only reasonable choices are Fedora or Arch based, unless you have ancient hardware and don't play any new games, in which case Ubuntu and other Debian based distros are fine.

Flatpak used bubblewrap by default, which is a sandbox application. You can turn off access to other directories or even the network with that. There's a gui flatpak app called flatseal you can toggle permissions for all other flatpaks with. There's also a steam flatpak.

>sandbox
lol. all the "sandbox" does is ask the sandboxed program to not do any of those things. the sandboxed program can always just reject those requests which is exactly what it will do if it's actual malware. never feel safe just because you're using a sandbox

Then you should know how namespaces work in Linux and know that what you just described is not how sandboxing programs work on Linux at all. And that bypassing a proot without permission is a vulnerability that will be patched.

I've been playing Painkiller, currently going through Nightmare difficulty. I was going to bump it to Trauma after the Prison level, which has the only tarot card available on Nightmare and not on Insomnia, but I think I'll keep going on this difficulty. It's more fun to go through levels a second time, because I've already got the tarot card and don't feel obligated to do the optional objectives which are usually not fun (like this level, for example, requiring exclusive use of the default weapon).
Anyway, I don't understand all the weird recommendations on this game's ProtonDB page (disabling DXVK etc.); it just works for me with Proton 5.13 (using DXVK, even, or at least, so says the MangoHud). But I don't know, maybe running it with WineD3D on the latest Proton is "better" somehow. Or maybe Proton 5.13 didn't work for them.

As someone who's been "meaning to" switch for a while, gimme yer argument on Arch vs Bazzite and/or whatever else.
Cause Win11 is such a pile of garbage.
I accidentally made it significantly worse for myself at the start of the year and have refused to fix it, but that's a separate issue.
Anonymous No.718817154 >>718817471
>>718816732
Bazzite is supposed to be batteries included. You're likely to have a good time and not need really any setup for most games. Only if you have a non-standard setup or are doing something weird.
Arch has a larger community. You're more likely to find a wiki article, forum post, or someone willing to help you do something, even if it's weird. Arch will require you to do the setup yourself though, so if you have anything nonstandard, you have a better chance of getting it right, because you're doing it yourself. In the old days it didn't even ship and installer, it had one even before that but it sucked, now they have a pretty good terminal based installer that covers many standard use cases.

I mean it's a spiritual successor to Total Annihilation and tangentially Supreme Commander. So only "generic" if you consider those mainstream. Still early development but fully featured and a ton of fun. UI is admittedly a bit shit right now but they're redesigning that. It's an alpha after all but more playable than most modern RTS slop.
