"collectathons" only died because casuals can not effectively navigate 3D space. It's an IQ barrier and it's why every game now has objective markers and maps.

they "died" because no one else knew what to do with the genre, it took until Mario Odyssey to make it sexy again

The average person in the global village can barely read, let alone navigate 3D space without GPS guidance. These are the primary audience for everything today.

If a game sold 1 million back then it was a giant success
If a game sold 1 millions now it's considered a giant failure
It's not that there are less smart people, it's that smart people got outnumbered by retards will buy 20 million copies of some braindead game and will never touch a collect-a-ton

nah they died because people hate being "stuck" in games and will literally quit playing if the solution isnt obvious
people arent dumber they just have much worse attention spans partly because there are so many other games to play
as a kid if you just got banjo tooie (60 dollars back in the day btw) and you didnt have any games or anything else to do like tiktok, youtube, etc then yeah you are going to keep looking around when you get stumped

>banjo tooie
>stumped

Jow do you even get stuck? It's easy and obvious what to do just some things take extra skill and attempts for children or those not experienced in gaming.

>casuals can not effectively navigate 3D space

I don't like being cynical but honestly I've been repeatedly noticing this by watching various people play various games. It really seems like the majority of players lack any drive to like, look for stuff, figure stuff out, work backwards to figure out a solution, keep track of where they've been etc. And a lot of people get lost VERY fucking easily in places that 100% are objectively not difficult to navigate or memorize.
