I’ve tried to get into it 6 times but it just doesn’t click to me

I’ve gotten past chapter 3 but it just feels like a slog. Is something wrong with me?
It’s very nice to look at though

I got into it after I started playing exclusively in the first person mode and got some immersion mods. Maybe try that. It's the only way I can deal with 80 hour long RPGs.

the farthest i ever made it was the new orleans place (saint denise i think?) and i stopped playing it. ever since then i try to replay it from the beginning but i don't get very far. i find it an exercise in tedium, you go through these really long boring horse rides to get to very very brief shooting gallery sections that aren't very good, and if you're lucky you might get some kind of setpiece that's fun if you play it in the 100% exact prescribed intended way that Rockstar says you have to play the mission. there's all kinds of stats and things but none of them really seem to mean anything, it's just the illusion of depth. every single thing in the game has to have some drawn out "immersive" animation that stops being impressive the 5th time you see it and then doing the most basic things involve basically sitting through 3-5 of these little mini cutscenes which are unskippable. it's just not smooth or fun to play.

I've got time for you, OP.

Did you play Red Dead 1?
Do you like the cast so far?
Are you a fan of Westerns?

games like this you have to be part of the hype wave intoxicated by marketing or else you feel how much of a pointless slog they are

I was very excited for it because I loved the first, then it ended up being the only game to actually bore me to sleep in my first session and I never went back.

Yeah
The actually fun parts of the game are side missions like the Night Folks.
I wish the main story mission was 1/4th as long and those resources were used to make the game mostly weird little custom side missions. Not random encounters but fully thought out side missions.

it and GTAV are such a perverse inversion of why the old GTA games were so fun. it was a sandbox, unbridled chaos, just making fun scenarios for you to go wild in. but instead of creating the conditions for you to have that kind of fun in they started scripting and forcing everything trying to artificially create that same feeling and it always falls flat.

same
i can tell it's good, it shows, but in my case the fucking controls feel so fucking clunky and unintuitive, all the time I feel like walking through molasses, feels so fucking unappealing that i have played like 7 hours in like 8 or 9 sessions, along a year

Its a slow and boring game, its also shallow in gameplay and the game progression is very boring and flat, by chapter 2 you have already seen everything and mastered it.

This is one common problem with these open world games, they give you everything too early and you feel no progression after that, which is a fun part about video games.
So no progression and shallow gameplay, the only thing left in it is the story and frankly its not that good, i think i prefer CDPR stories over Rockstar, so even in that department they got beat.

Rockstar are pretty overrated as a developer, their specialty is making Urban City simulation like GTA, if someone else someday beats them at that then they are fucking dead.

The only difference between Ubisoft style of open world and Rockstar is that simulation part, if you are not into it, then this game is going to be boring, actually almost all Ubisoft open world games have better gameplay than RDR2, same goes for Ubisoft inspired open world games like Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, Witcher 3, Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy and Cyberpunk
