I don't know who decided that video games should have movie-esque background music for their OSTs but that shit needs to stop. You could play almost any games generic movie style slop OST and I wouldn't recognize any of it because it's all the same slop.
The reason FFVII is goated is because it's basically a prog rock album from the 70s or 80s and dope AF and not generic composer generic piece. You can basically apply that to every good OST ever. DKC, OoT, Pokemon R/B, Halo 2, Quake, Doom, etc. etc. There's a reason shit like Devil Trigger stands out. Shit, if anything modern games if they want fancier OSTs with real instruments and stuff because of technology they should be going the anime style route not movie route. Shit like
