Are they right?
https://www.pcgamer.com/games/strategy/dawn-of-war-4-developer-king-art-knows-what-you-all-really-want-overwhelmingly-its-singleplayer-content-and-the-campaign/

>"That was one of the things that we, as King Art, brought to the table," Jan Theysen, creative director and game director, tells me. "We are known for making narrative-driven games, and the campaign for Iron Harvest was very well received. So for us, this was super clear: campaigns will be one of the big pillars for the game."

>King Art surveyed Iron Harvest players and asked them what the most important modes were for them. "And overwhelmingly," says Theysen, "it's singleplayer content and the campaign." That informed the studio's continued focus. But it didn't just want to do one campaign.

>"We had this idea, instead of just having a Space Marine campaign, or maybe one campaign where everybody has some little bits and pieces, let's actually have a big campaign for each of the four factions. And that is already, of course, a lot of work, but then we said, OK, can we maybe even make the individual campaigns dynamic? And can we have optional missions, and can we make sure that the decisions that players make matter? And now we have these four beefy campaigns plus the tutorial."

>"That's definitely where we're putting most of our focus for this title," says senior game designer Elliott Verbiest. "But of course we are going to have multiplayer modes for people who want to play with their friends or against other players. But as we saw in both feedback from the community as well as what we remember, what we look most fondly back on when playing RTS games when we were all younger, or how that shaped our tastes in the genre, the singleplayer campaigns were one of the things that stuck the longest with us."

If they were really "all about the single player", they'd have a Risk-like or TW-like FFA campaign like Dark Crusade.
I'm thinking about not even buying DoW4 simply because I don't want a big story heavy campaign where oh no Cyrus dies, Gorgutz does the thing, or whatever is going on with the Necrons. I want to make my own fun. I don't want to be told what is happening at all times.

co-op too, sounds like Retribution which is fine, the campaign was great but too short

Do i want a good campaign in a dawn of war title?
Yes. More important than good multiplayer.

Not falling for it again.

Now we're going to get the opposite of DoW 3. Instead of them chasing the moba crowd we're going to get a tacked on multiplayer mode.

JUST COPY AND PASTE DARK CRUSADE'S DESIGN
IT'S NOT FUCKING HARD

Unlike most warhammer fag dickriders, DoW actually did mostly proper ork content, so yeah. They got a better idea than most.

On a fucking dawn of war game? No. I want the pvp to be nice like in dow1 that's all.
Anonymous No.718814317
I dunno, give it co-op campaign, then I'll have a justification to shill it to my friends

What I like most about dawn of war and what kept my playing for years is that there where many skirmish maps and most of the factions. As for campaigns, the only campaign I like was the dark crusade campaign because I was a lot more free to do whatever you want. I don't really care much for story, I prefer the re-playability dark crusade had. because once I finish a story in a campaign that railroads me with the same mission after mission like the first dawn of war campaign, I just put it away and never play it again forever. Also, a campeign with a big narrative is pretty lame now days because it enables modern developers put their stupid shit I don't care about in it.
I honestly think I'm not going to be that happy about any new dawn of war because gamesworkshop has done some redesigns and changes I I'm not a fan of

I have nothing against the Primaris, but if the game supports modding, my god I will LOVE the Firstborn/OG Marines's return.

I think it's going to be as epic as the campaign for Homeworld 3 and anons here are gonna talk about it the same way they did with Homeworld 3. I'm actually hyped and can't wait.

RTS online multiplayer is too stressful, especially for zoomers. That's why they all migrated to mobas.

The mistake a lot of current RTS games have made is that they're too focused on the e-sports competitive aspect of the genre right off the bat. I mean I get it, but before you get into that, you need to build an audience first and single-player campaigns are the foundation.

>Are they right?
Yes. DoW is unironically a singleplayer RTS. Comp stomp and MP are great and all to have as options but the narrative campaign is why it was so well received and why it remains iconic to this day. With the single exception of starcraft, catering to MPfags in strategy games only ever brings ruin

Yes.
One trillion times yes.

Unless it's very well made PVE like helldivers 2 I never want to play an online multiplayer game again as long as I live. I have had it with seething cunts, i've had it with meta, i've had with tryhard obnoxious asians narrowing the game down to the most optimal build, i've had it with looking at somebody's hp bar decrease as i shoot them, i've had it with heroshit, i've had it with skins, i've had it with whining teammates, i've had it with developers making me fight other players and acting like that's game designe because they're too lazy to make ai and a node graph.

Fuck multiplayer into the toilet and shit on its gay corpse.

Mods unironically prolonged the lifespan of the game far beyond what the average company is willing to put in. Even Unification Wars with the meme factions and units would still cost a pretty penny today when shat on a piecemeal basis. See Gladius for details.

One thing that I've noticed a lot of companies do is try to EULA that shit off by removing any usage of copyright infringement material ala Star Wars crossovers. As if that's going to stop anyone. The point of these mods to make improvements or personal adjustments under your own time without any overhead costs or otherwise. All because Roblox is using a slavery based modal for theirs and Crapcom is snuffing out the competition that locks their stuff behind monthly paywalls. Usually at a far higher quality that can be directly adapted to the general audience that will pay up. RTS games in paricualr benefit greatly from this concept providing the basegame itself is worth putting the work in for. CnC, DoW and Sins are living examples of how to do it right with no bullshit involved.

Yes. MP is just a fun side bit in RTS and that's how a dev should treat it.

Would be great to have FFA campaign like Dark Crusade, but I really liked campaigns of DoW1, Winter Assault and 2. I have high hopes since they hired Brian Drummond to voice Gorgutz again (and maybe half of the game), along with Steve Blum for Cyrus.

I dropped the campaigns when they became bland total war lite with zero story. If I wanted to play skirmish I'd just play skirmish.
Dark crusade was a disappointment. Winter assault was the best campaign so I hope they do it more like that.
