The short answer is Stripe and Paypal fucking them over.
The whole Visa/Mastercard anti-porn thing went into effect overnight and froze a shitload of accounts, not just Itch's. Itch doesn't have that money either, it all got seized by every single payment processor at once, something like seven figures swallowed up by payment processors for breaking a ToS that didn't exist the day before.

This is inevitably going to end with itch getting sued, and itch in turn suing (primarily) Stripe. You're not going to hear a word of this for another year, because it's 100% in lawyers hands right now. It would be legal suicide to make any kind of statement this early.
