I was about to pre-order this but then I found out that it'll be free on xbox goypass. But it still sounds like a pain in the ass instead of just having the copy forever. Are you guys getting it on Steam or renting it from Microsoft?

Does anyone here nows how to paly the NGS2 black mod? On a pirated copy? The faggot piece of shit modder shuts down your game if it detects your copy is not legit.
I tried using the smart steam emu, but I still need the legit steam file, not the cracked one to run the game with the mod properly.

How does goypass work? Do you download the game but it's drm'd to only open when you're signed in online for as long as it's available or can you download it and turn off your Xbox/PC forever and play it. Or is it the worst option where you stream the game and have huge latency?

You can do both, downloading game or streaming the game through a browser.
For downloading game on GP, I have no idea if there is a weekly verification or if there's an internal timer counting GP days, but I can play downloaded GP Games offline
Also, not all games will share save data between Console and PC, usually it's the older games that can't share it.
However, any game that has the "Xbox Play Anywhere" label will share between both console and PC, specifically the Xbox Windows App.
Supposedly, there is a way to convert Gamepass saves to Steam, but not the other way around.

Gamepass is such a jewish scheme.
It lowers the sales numbers so studios would have their price reputation lowered, letting M$soft have more power over them or buy them out.
Similar shit is happening with streaming services and filmmakers.
