It’s wild, right? I legit thought the devs would nerf the dialogue for modern sensibilities, but nope - full 1940s authenticity, warts and all. It's jarring at first but kinda drives home how different that era was. Honestly, the attention to historical accuracy in dialogue makes the world feel way more immersive. Still surprised it cleared ratings boards though.

Despite the game being repetitive open world slop, I do have to give them credit for how authentic the dialogue feels. I can’t think of a single other game that has such blatant, in your face racism. Considering how badly rockstar cucked out with RDR2 and its depiction of the late 1800s, I think Mafia 3 still deserves some credit. Some cutscenes pretty much sound like a /pol/ meetup (except with actual White people.)

it’s the django unchained of vidya. despite it being “anti racist” or whatever a lot of dialogue just ends up being funny as fuck. it has to have the record for most use of the word “nigger” in a video game. i laughed my ass off in the theme park mission where you go through an amusement park full of sambo looking caricatures with big red lips and ooga booga, spear chucket aesthetics.

The Mafia devs are European so they don't have the psychic block preventing them from using the word like Americans do.

I agree, I like how they portrayed him as well. He was a lowest hanging fruit that could've easily been portrayed as a sissy evil white racist brat with rich parents, but instead he's actually a complicated villain where he actually liked and respected the protag but he had to backstab the protag because he was loyal to his father than his friends (which is no different from how protag saw his boss)

It's so fucking boring though, the ubisoft style sidemissions that must be completed to advance the plot literally ruin the game, luckily there's a mod that removes 90% of that shit, it's the only way I finished it.
