Globalized IP law is based on the paradigm of big companies with infinitely scaling legal and marketing arms capable of dwarfing small countries.
We had to close down the soup bar at my store because of this because we weren't allowed to sell the soup that was contaminated (it was during covid as well) and so we had to dump the entire pot and clean it and it ended up just being a huge waste. Its a shame because the soup was great

Apparently it's a popular hobo trick, just walk into the cafeteria, eat/drink all you can before getting intercepted and asked to leave. The place usually won't even try asking for a payment because that would be unenforceable on the insolvent and police wouldn't want to detain the offender either since he'd just stink up the car.
We had few of those frequenting campus canteen back when I was in college.
