If the game is unavailable on modern hardware, then release a port, ideally as open source, that targets generic modern hardware and software.
If the game has dated assets, then either release your own assets for it or rely on community mods, don't release an entirely new game.

75% price cost release from a typical game full price standard would be cool for a remake 1:1 with just updated graphics, models and animations. 45% from standard price cost if it's just a re-release for modern hardware. This is reasonable. (Especially if they release two games for one like they used to.)

You're talking about ports.
For remakes, they have to pay programmers and artists to create entirely new assets to replace the old ones.

>You are talking about ports
The term remake and remaster are almost entirely marketing terms to begin with and are taken from the days when you genuinely would be making analog media from an master copy.

All of the finalized design work for aesthetics, design and gameplay has been done. For a 1:1 remake all of the models and textures are also usually available just from dumping game assets, if they're lucky enough to have source code, then they also don't have to code entirely from scratch.
The massive volume of skilled labor and management that has been preemptively accomplished can't be understated and the relatively lower quality programming and artistry that goes into making a derivative of that is nothing by comparison.
I wouldn't necessarily state that this is free labor, but the amount of effort and budget that goes into it is a fraction of a fraction of what would have gone into the original game and you couldn't possibly justify a 70$ asking price.
If they don't like that value proposition, then just leave it to fan passion projects like AM2R.

Problem is those good remakes are of GREAT originals. If you're an oldfag you have no problem playing OGs instead, remakes are made for zooms who find OGs clunky
Unless it's a "remake" in name only like FF7R then it tries to appeal to all

Because there's barely any new players, newer generations barely "play" videogames, they consume them instead, and you don't have to play it yourself to consume it, watching a streamer playing it is consuming it for example. Chasing newer audience only works if you make quirky streamer game to be flavor of the month, if you chase them with an actual AAA game project you company will crash and burn.
So you keep chasing the existing ones with a game they loved 10 years ago and sell it to them again.
