FF peaked with the original 7 and 6. Everything after was a slow but sure downgrade.
Now it’s just characters oozing faggotry and stories as deep as the first 2 ones.

well you don't have to be good at it, i just smash the attack button and have my companions heal me

Only pay attention to whether you hitting weakness or is the enemy resisting and if the enemy attack has triangle with exclamation mark indicating unblockable attack. And yeah, both your and enemy HP bar. Other info, like exact damage numbers are noise.

No, you are expected to fill in the ATB bar, issue command and switch to next character to fill their ATB bar and do the same. By the end of the first character's action, you are already issuing command to the 2nd character. Some fights you want to keep active ATB bars in reserve for insta nukes or healing
