'stat' games aren't easy for me at all. Every time I gauge an opponent no matter how benign or mutated it looks, I try to get a visceral sense of how powerful it is. Does it have legs? Does it appear to have soft spots? Does it use its teeth? How fast can it run? Can it burn? If it swipes at me with a 4ft wide hand can I plant a spear and stab it in the process? I look at enemies as if they had mass, motion and motivation, and stats don't give a fuck about my judgement. And that thoroughly sucks - but that's why I love fighting games; power:weight:motion = real battle. Real discernment. RPG devs just do whatever the fuck they want. And they only try to make it more and more formulaic so you can memorize everything, instead of using skill. *spits*
