Sad news old blizzard bros
>One month after Dreamhaven launched Wildgate, a multiplayer shooter game, the company had sold just 130,000 units, according to the letter, which was seen by Bloomberg News. The company’s other game, Sunderfolk, sold just 62,000 copies since its April debut, Morhaime wrote.
>Despite receiving positive reviews, both titles performed below expectations, Morhaime said. He’s looking for new financing for Dreamhaven, but in the meantime the company would need to retrench.
>“Our monthly expenses are outpacing revenue,” Morhaime wrote. The focus now is “urgently reducing costs,” he said, adding that “we are committed to Dreamhaven surviving through this.”
>Frost Giant Studios Inc., also founded by Blizzard veterans, released Stormgate in August. Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Tim Morten said in a Linkedin post last week that the game wasn’t getting the traffic or sales he hoped for.
>In an interview, Morhaime said he’s cut the price of Wildgate by one-third to $20 on the Steam gaming platform. He hopes the reduction will make the game more accessible to players.
First Stormgate, now this...why don't ex-blizzard games have the same spark as the 90s & 00s blizzard?

Same. Only now am I hearing about these games. Only game from veteran Blizzard game developers I have heard and paid attention to is Legacy: Steel and Sorcery. There was another game by former Blizzard developers that was inspired or is a spiritual successor to Starcraft but as a 3rd person shooter, yet I can't remember the name.

I think they just fell for a lot of the same mistakes that ruined most modern video game companies.
>set up shop in some expensive meme city to "attract talent"
>forget to actually hire any talent and instead recruit people based on how many buzzwords are in their twitter/bluesky bio
>now you are stuck paying double salaries for a gaggle of headless chickens
>a month before the deadline realize you are fucked, spend the last drop of the budget on some Indians to slap together something semi-playable
>fire everyone and try to cash out with what little investments you managed to siphon into your personal account

I think Wildgate really just dropped the ball on their monetization model, people aren't willing to drop $30 for an exclusively multiplayer game with very little content that also expects you to grind out dailies to unlock anything and buy monopoly money for cosmetics, that shit may have worked for Blizzard ten years ago but it doesn't fly now. The few times I've played it it's fun but it absolutely was not worth its price tag.

Maybe their new games aren't very good? Maybe they have generic modern visuals instead of charming worlds and character designs?

"don't you guys have phones" didn't work the first time but bros what if we try it again as an incredibly smaller company, without it being attached to a massive, established brand and don't market it
