With 12 levels probably full fighter. I don´t care for the barbarian´s rage, warlock´s are wimps to the point multiclassing is more efficient if one wants a spell sword and pallies are too restrictive and i´d always end as an oath breaker. I don´t work for free, not even in games. You can take the morals while i take the rewards. Would be accepting nothing less than unique items or brain parasite removal.

Clerics are based in a setting full of undead though and there is an OP tier weapon that may carry you all through act 2. I don´t do imaginary deities but seeing how they do actually exist in setting i´d say Clerics are a solid choice too.

Makes a pact with a supernatural creature for powers. They're full casters but only have very limited spell slots they always cast at max level, made up for by having a very powerful bread and butter Cantrip, and access to numerous skills and abilities granted by Eldritch Invocations. They can pretty much be made into any role you want them to fill.

Roleplay wise they're great if a DM ties your Patron into the plot, but unfortunately Bladur's Gate doesn't really do that.

It's kind of like Cleric. With Pen and Paper DnD your DM can do all sorts of stuff to let you interact with your Deity, but in a CRPG they don't typically allow for that level of interactivity and customization, even when things are mostly written, and the vast majority of CRPGs aren't fully Voice Acted like BG3.

Though Wyll can have scenes where he helps or resists Mizora, but Origin characters lose too much of their personality for it to be as interesting as it could be. I would have really enjoyed playing a fully voice acted Origin character even if it meant my roleplay options were more limited just to choices they would arguably make.

-Cast every Wizard spell at the same level as a regular Wizard (because it's a Wizard spec in this game) so you can totally cast Power Word : Kill or Wail of the Banshee while killing fools in melee
-Enchant their weapon with Fire, Cold, Electricity or Acid and switch on the fly. That endow does 1d6 damage with one more dice every 3 levels (in BG3 it'd be either 1d2 or just +1 damage)
-Can get Int to damage/hit for melee and ranged attacks
-Can splash into the Pale Master spec to make themselves Undead and thus immune to crit, infinite waterbreathing and other advantages of being undead. You can literally cast Aura of Death to act as a HoT while you cleave fuckers

so I can’t decide what class I want to play on my first run, and on the wiki I noticed there is an achievement for playing through taking 1 level in all 12 classes without respecing.
I thought that sounded interesting but does it require meta knowledge going in? Or is it reasonably doable fresh, I am not super familiar with 5e specifics but I understand all the main mechanics, I plan to play on whatever the normal difficulty is and don’t actually care that much about the achievement itself so I’d be willing to respec if it came to it

Baldur's Gate 3 is specifically one of the rare games were magic casters mog fighters, though. The spells in this game actually have a crazy amount of busted uses. Halflings came after Kender and were based on 'some' of the Kender aspects, which is why many halflings are incredibly annoying because the idiot writers who didn't understand kender (probably a reading comprehension issue like yours) didn't understand what they were trying to accomplish with Halflings.

When you do so, try theming their equipment to match, it's fun. The primary use for summons in 5e is definitely as meatshields because of the way they're statted but they also help out with action economy by picking off extremely low health enemies so PCs don't need to waste their turn on it.
In a lot of games "summons" are like DPS spells but in 5e they're more like crowd control spells.

Blooming blade is an attack action that does an attack with your weapon (such as a shadowblade) but with extra damage

the most fun I've had so far is a barbarian focused on throwing.
you take the frenzy barbarian that gets throw on bonus action, tavern brawler feat (+1d4) ring of flinging (+1d4) and the spear that comes back after throwing.
I'm almost at the end of act 1 and I've mostly been throwing enemies at other enemies killing both in the process.

Not really how it works in Bg3. All melee fighters pretty much inherently will be teleporting across the entire battlefield with the humble jump and a little ritual magic help. If you want the "does different stuff" fighter Battlemaster is there and actually works really well because of how lethal pushes and other status effects can be in Larian games(especially combined with jumping into the right spot). Plus you have precision attack to more or less break bounded accuracy when you need to. Arcane Archer is just Banishing half the enemy force with no save then just killing them the other half with extremely efficient boosted magic range attacks. AAs get a silly number of arrows per short rest. Eldritch Knight either jumps over to you and unloads six attacks in the first round (8 at level 11) and then beats the survivors with 3(4) per turn. Or you just say fuck this game and do a throwing EK, take tavern brawler, and win the game because you're adding +10 to all attack and damage rolls just from your strength, and thus break bounded accuracy and never miss.

Champion sucks though.

Fighter is the strongest class in BG3 with Battlemaster being the most versatile. Add the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo (+1d4 with Throw Attacks) and Caustic Band (+2 Acid Damage) to the list. Both can be gotten from Derryth in the Underdark - the former is a reward for saving Baelen, the latter is up for sale.
I've been using this build with Karlach and it's very fun! Turning on Frenzy for Enraged Throw is not even required in 90% of the battles. Multi-classing is a bit anti-climatic but it can improve the build even further in various ways.

Getting the option to humiliate the bugbear/ogre couple in act 1 by laughing at them singlehandedly convinced me that sometimes getting unwinnable rolls is worth it for the nuggets of gold.

Winning every roll isn't very fun either, it stops you from engaging in all the game's mechanics. I remember my first playthrough I passed so many rolls to get money that I just never had to pickpocket. Was really fun messing around with that on my second playthrough.

Swords bard is objectively the single strongest class in the game. 4 attacks per round thanks to flourishes (especially devastating with bows), good selection of spells and they are mostly enchantment/illusion so in act 3 they become a bonus action thanks to the ring of mystic scoundrel. You're also the party's Face with excellent charisma and the highest amount of unique interactions among any races in the game.
You can even optimize him further. Go 1 fighter/ 1 wizard / 10 swords bard and just become an arcane supersoldier.

I'd argue the best way of approaching sorcerers is splitting them with wizard progression and using CHA slots for utility spells like counterspell and haste. This way you get both the versatility of a wizard and metamagic.

Fighters in BG3 is amazing. Except champion, nobody likes champion.
Battle master get a lot of cool abilities like disarming / tripping, setting up parry and ripostes, giving allies extra attacks, etc.
Eldritch knight is just pure power with more attacks that any other class plus a good assortment of nice utility spells.
Arcane archer get cheap banishments, several AoEs, and several debuffs.
I'm so happy that BG3 fighters are not just dumb autoattackers. Well, champions are, but we don't talk about champions.
