Because the gameplay loop demands absolute mechanical precision and constant style optimization, which directly feeds into the same parts of the brain that obsess over frame data in fighting games or spreadsheet damage calculations in MMOs. Combine that with abstract lore people can project themselves onto and you've got the perfect storm. The game itself isn't even the issue-it's the vacuum of interpretation it leaves that breeds those types. They moved in the moment the devs said "we won't define this character's gender," or some similar vague artsy nonsense.
