Are the sequels worth playing or should I just be done with the series after the OG?

I played Deus Ex II when it came out and had a blast. No idea why people shit on it so much. I played the first nuDeus Ex and it was pretty good too though I forgot most of the plot and characters. Never played MD but I hear it was about the same quality as the other modern Dude Sex game

The modern sequels are pretty trashy and I wouldn't say are worth playing. HR has nice atmosphere and great voice acting but that's about it. I have no clue about it's actual immediate sequel.
Anonymous No.718887505
Are they worth it? Well, they're all worse than the original. I can't tell you if it's worth it for you but they're not bad games, Invisible War is plenty jank but is still fun to play in its own way. Human Revolution plays less like Deus Ex and more like a pseudo-MGS game. Mankind Divided does a better job at feeling more like Deus Ex in design but the plot goes nowhere if you care about that.

IW isn't bad, just heavily shit with mechanics like ammo being tied to every gun and using up different amounts or the skll system gone and the biomods replacing augs
That said it's not a bad game. just not as good as the first

HR, played it to the second hub and stopped (was on console and disliked the controls). Not bad but very, very different in terms of how it plays overall and the presentaiton of it. It's a lot less 'you are in the enemy area' and more of a 'areas are a bit like NY' but some missions do take place in enemy only areas

Has good but not amazing stealt and both games still suffer the whole 'back up in a vent and AI can't find you' deal

Never played MD

Only Invisible War (the second game, "Deus Ex 2") is shit and even then, it's only shit by way of relativity to the quality of, and expectations laid down by, the first game.

I still thought IW was good, I was disappointed at first sure, but I just played it and in the end, liked it quite a bit. It was doing its "own thing", but it is for sure Deus Ex for massive retards.
For example there are clear objectively good choices for augments because there's only like, 3, augments per slot and 5 augment slots (head/eyes/legs/arms/skeleton).
The ammunition system was very controversial, it was considered (and still is) infamously retarded at the time ... universal ammunition clips for all your guns and they used ammo at differing rates. What the fuck! Garbage. Melee combat was thus the best because of this and because of the augment slot situation I mentioned earlier.

Invisible War was made as a console game for the OG Xbox, whereas the first game was a really detailed, dense, complex gameplay and statistics manager im-sim on the PC.
But, that said, I still think Invisible War is a good game. It's just very, very flawed and bad compared to Deus Ex 1.

The only actually objectively really bad game was that mobile phone game that they made, Deus Ex: The Fall.
All the other sequels are really, really fucking good.
If you like immersive sims you will enjoy them

Mankind Divided is pretty good and does very well for a modern Deus Ex. It's a bit short and has its issues, but it's easily second best in the series and not miles away from the OG.

Human Revolution is just a stealth game that lets you shoot if you want to. I wouldn't call it an immersive sim at all.

I beat them all on the hardest difficulty.
The first has the best story, music, atmosphere.
The second is bad but not the worst.

Third is actually pretty nice. The boss fights are easy. I don't know why people complained.

The fourth has amazing graphics and music. Good gameplay but the story is meh

HR is pretty good, but not amazing. Won't have the same tone as the original at all, so don't go in expecting that. MD has a fantastic fucking hub area where a majority of your playtime takes place, but manages to have a worse story than HR, somehow.

Depends on what you're tying to get out of them. If you want to see where the original teams went with Deus Ex play invisible war, if not skip. It's not that fun.
If you want to see what Deus Ex looks like through a modern game design lens that completely missed the point play HR and MD.

You know what, IW has some decent writing in places. Those places being wherever JC Denton happens to be, but still.
Aside from that, Deus Ex really is the only one worth playing. None of the sequels really managed to capture that same level of gameplay complexity or writing quality, so if you're looking for more of that stuff on Deus Ex's level, you're gonna have to keep looking.

There are a lot of cool mods for deus ex too.
The Nameless mod is weird.
Human Revolution is alright, I haven't played it in a while, It's not written the same but the gameplay is improved. The Original Deus Ex creates an atmosphere that is hard to match, I wouldn't write off HR AKA piss filter game .
Played a little bit of Mankind Divided and it is more of the same.
Deus ex is fun fucking with the AI trying to stealth and shit. Human revolution captures that but you won't get the same quality of writing.

The boss fights got patched and tweaked after release. People complained because not because they are too hard but originally it kind of forces you to go into combat and the bosses didn't have solutions or work arounds like the original.

Don’t listen to tards on here. Human Resources is a great game and has a lot of other games for the time beat. You can’t genuinely tell me that Bioshock Infinite is a better game to HR despite probably selling more. Dialogue options basically copy Mass Effect but Kotor copied Deus Ex. It’s a fun game because you can play it almost entirely how you want through out the game without having to deticate time and resources to a single build (system shock 2 is guilty of this and sucks for it)

I just finished MD after playing through the original with the revision mod previously.

Gameplay wise, both MD and HR blow the original out of the water. The augs in MD can make the game too easy though if you really use them all. The ai is way better, gunplay better, more weapons, stealth system better, "hacking" is something you do instead of just using a multi tool, level exploration and progression with quest markers on the map is way better also.

MD does feel like a side quest game (Mass Effect 2) because it ends on a cliff hanger and they never made a sequel to it.
