As a rule, proper nouns usually aren't something you translate in media. The only reason to do it would be to hide the Japanese influence. Sometimes this is okay, but most of the time it just leads to confusion.

English and Japanese aren’t the same; not every word can be used as a name. Anyone with a basic understanding of root words and prefixes would be able to understand that Pyra’s name is drawn from Pyr (the Greek prefix for fire).

It doesn’t have to be the exact word, especially since most words derives from it (Pyre/pyro) are much more masculine. Pyra communicates the exact same thing as Homura to an audience that might not be familiar with the Japanese language.

Again, Pyre wouldn’t work because it has a masculine connotation. Swapping out the values makes it a more feminine name while preserving the original meaning.

“Homura” works in a language where like half of the country has a last name that literally translates to “tall bridge.” You usually don’t see that in English speaking nations, so being a little more creative with it is fine in order for it to sound more natural.

The English dub of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has some of the most SOVL of any video game dub
