That looks nothing like a genderswapped Mario bros. Even the gameplay looks nothing like Mario. At least the original 1987 version resembled NES Mario.

This such an unflattering cover and makes the game look like shovelware garbage, they look way better ingame and other cover art. Anyway Giana Sisters was made to replicate the Super Mario Bros originally, but Twisted Dreams is it's own type of platformer that became it's own thing with Mighty Switch Force style map switching.
