Best take on the Borderlands I've seen.
TPS too has issues, like the entire Janey Springs, but it's great, if not as full as its concept arts implied.
As for the elephant in the room, I'd say 3 works. It's just that 3 is a most insane game thus far in an already mentally unstable series.
As in literally insane. Borderlands has a special kind off atmosphere, there's an abstract sort of inhumanity about it, delusion, delirium, whatever you want to call it.
A fundamental sense of wrongness. It starts to pick up hard in the finale of 1, waxes and wanes in 2, makes itself known in TPS and Claptastic Voyage, and hangs like a moon in 3 and Krieg's DLC.
Last one is ironic to boot, a crazed but sane man named War falls in love with a woman whose name can be translated as Illusion.
It's an abstract kind of mockery.
