Has anyone tried chibi robo since it got released on the NSO?
I've been having fun with it, the aesthetic reminds me of katamari

My mother played this game with me and looked up walkthroughs for me sometimes too, I remember being a bit sad that getting the Super costume would take a decently long time for me back then, but she taught me how fun it was to grind, I miss her.

I believe it was fixed in the Japan-exclusive Wii re-release but my biggest gripe is the text speed can be painfully slow.

It's a cute and charming game with an interesting premise, but fuck is it a slog during cutscenes. I replayed it on NSO and enjoyed it. I still need to get most of the stickers though,

Played it for the first time a while back. Early on it's a bit annoying just because you'll need to stop and recharge after doing anything but once you get further along it is very relaxing.

I started playing it for the first time. It seems fun but Chibi-Robo's battery depletes really quickly.

Also what's up with Jenny, is she autistic?

Spoilers ahead
The family is broken. Dad quit his job and instead of finding a new job reverts to a childlike state of spending all his time and money they don't have playing with toys. Mom feels like she's the only sane one in the house and the only one who does any housework. There's deep friction between them which traumatizes Jenny into sitting at the bottom of the Foyer at night sometimes likely because she doesn't like to hear them fighting. She's convinced herself she's been cursed by a frog and can only speak like one now. Fun fact, you can talk to her normally with the Frog Outfit which also works during cutscenes.

For anyone curious about the Chibi-Robo series, it's EFFECTIVELY a trilogy

>Chibi-Robo: Plug into Adventure
Has a Wii port (originally JP only but has translation). The differences are pretty minor so go with whichever version you prefer.
>Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol
DS. Like Zelda 2 and Mario 2 mixes things up a lot, becoming a strange pseudo-sim game where Chibi-Robo manages a park. Not a bad game but expect something different from the original. Try it for a bit, and if it really doesn't click feel free to skip.
>Chibi-Robo: Clean Sweep
Also DS. Takes the best elements of the previous two games and makes the true sequel to the original's story. Great story, best gameplay of the series, downright God game. Don't look up this game until you beat the original because it's a direct sequel and WILL contain spoilers.

The two games afterwards weren't made by the original team, and are bland slop unrelated to anything.

Going into the game blind really threw me for a loop since I wasn't expecting the story to be like that. And so accurate a depiction of my parents. Replace Jenny's frog thing with playing video games all day and I could call it an autobiography.

I don't think there's anything missable. IIRC some quests might require a few tries until the right person is in the right location to continue a mission but nothing you can miss.

None that I can think of, there's no time limit to anything either. The closest I can think of is that there's a small quest during the main story where a character offers to make you something and you can bring them three different things to decide the design of it. You can't change the design after you pick it so you'll need to choose carefully. Save if you care about the look of the thing.

I've been playing it. First impression was that it was created when players were much more patient with repeat actions taking extra time. As soon as I noticed you need to recharge constantly and everytime you do, it goes through a bunch of dialogue and a save prompt, I felt that had the game come out 10 years later there'd be separate buttons to only charge and to save at the outlets.

It's a shame Chibi-Robo never got more mainstream appeal. Would've liked to see more of this type. I'm vaguely aware the original creators are making a spiritual successor, has anyone been keeping up with that? Saw the kickstarter trailer and I know it's rough but I'm not really sold on it.

Did you all know Chibi robo was originally a point and click adventure game? And it was being published by Namco?

But Nintendo saw it and said "make this shit a third person game where you can control chibi instead" and they invested in the game and so it has a 3 way split between Nintendo and Namco.

Did you also know that Skip Ltd the developers shut down 2 years ago. Nintendo just sat back and let the studio close. Could have bought them but nope.

>but it's through NSO
Talk about bittersweet. I tried to spread the word about the game when it released, but most people didn't "get it" back then. Part of what made the shitty sequels / spin-offs frustrating is that the market clearly had developed a taste for the quirky, laid back style of game that the original game delivered. The problem was that availability was (intentionally) awful.

So I'm happy for those of you playing for the first time, butthurt that the series is still dead, and disappointed that the game is only (officially) available through the gay rental subscription service.

Might've been neat but the game we got seems like it was better.
> Nintendo just sat back and let the studio close. Could have bought them but nope.
Same could be said for Alpha Dream. Nintendo rarely buy studios. I doubt they'd even buy out long time partners like Hal Laboratory if needed. Best case scenario they poached the talent.

To be fair these guys only made the nichest of niche games. I don't think even the first chibi robo cracked half a million sales and that's their most "famous" game.

They did the same for Vanpool (the guys who helped make many of the Kirby games and Dillon's Rolling Western). Nintendo doesn't buy dying studios they work with, not even if they are long-time followers of theirs.
