Old gamers, at what age did you find "your taste" in games? I stopped pretending to care about video game stories and I have never been happier. The second a character starts talking for more than 10 seconds, I skip.

I mostly just like city builders or anything with management and old fighting games.

That's the closest approximation. EVE is strictly stat and rng based and X4 is action. And in X4 you give commands to NPCs to make an organization function and EVE would be real players instead.

I became interested in soulslikes when Elden Ring released even though I didn't give a single shit about Dark Souls when my friend was playing it (had more to do with not being able to afford a PS3 than anything). Now I'll play any rollslop/parryslop that I find. 35 now.

My favourite genre has to be ARPG's like Path of Exile. I get so addicted to it that I physically feel pain in my right hand as I play for really long periods of time. Thankfully I don't have any permanent damage but I have to pretty much stop myself playing PoE because it would consume every aspect of my life.
Unfortunately the only thing that compared would be something like Borderlands 2 with BL2Fix mod to skip cutscenes and dialogue but even that is shallow in comparison to PoE.

Even as a super oldfag I find that I am constantly enjoying new stuff. However, I don't have much patience for games that don't let me play at the beginning. If you have like 30+ minutes of bullshit cutscenes or walk-and-talk when I first load the game then you can fuck off, and I say this as someone who loves JRPGs.

All I've done is branch out into more styles of RPG over the years.
