Because of the Silksong hype I decided to finally pick up Hollow Knight.

I just defeated this boss, when will the game pick up and become fun?

It never becomes fun, the soundtrack is good but it's more of a time waster you play while watching a movie or stream on your other monitor

When you uninstall it and play a good Metroidan like... Huh... That Batman game where he's trapped in an asylum?

the game doesn't fully utilize your moveset for normal bosses anyway, it's quite nonlinear and has no idea what upgrades you'll have at any particular point

See this is the problem with HLTB. What does "main story" mean?
If it's the first ending then yeah I can see it being way shorter like 16 hours. But for a true ending without a guide you'll have to blindly explore way longer

It's a game heavily carried by its presentation. The gameplay and exploration leave a lot to be desired.

I was going to make the same thread. I am 2 hours in and so far it's been average. Is not hooking me like 9Sols did with the cool intro of cat aliens harvesting humans and the fun challenging sekiro combat. In HK I am just going around hacking easy bugs, collecting coins, upgrading in the shop. I am not having fun. And why do people compare this to Dark Souls? I don't see any similarities.

Hollow Knight is objectively a C-tier Medtroidvania and I am sick and tired of pretending it is anything but. People need to stop putting it on a fucking pedestal as if it is G-d's gift to the genre, if you ever bothered to take off your rose tinted glasses you'd quickly realize it is an incredibly average game hard carried by a unique and pleasing art style. I would be open to bumping it to B tier with a compelling argument but I have yet to hear one.

the only good part of this game is its production value. it's somehow simultaneously feels like a high quality product (due to its art on music), but when you play it, it feels bland and boring.

the second game at least looks to have a more fun and complex movement.

The only metroidvania games I've played are Rabi Ribi and La Mulana1/2. I love both but they're also both sub-vania games. Ones a bullet hell the other is a puzzle game. Should I bother with Hollow?

I use keyboard and it works perfectly fine. It's comfortable, the game never requires the gradations of an analog stick. Controller might be better and the game recommends it, but I've never tried it.
