Why are some people so mad about telekinesis in VTMB2? It seems really cool. It's sorta like Half-Life 2 meets Superhot. You use the force to grab weapons, then shoot them until their ammo runs out, then fling the gun itself as high speed projectile.

In the old version you picked up guns, fired them a few times (in the demo footage they fired an entire magazine an NPC and did zero damage), then lamely dropped them on the floor. I've seen people claim they want that over this.

I'm mad about the fact that there is no gear, no weapons, no stats and the talent system is extremely limited.

I think weapons not being a staple of a elder vampire is completely fine. What isn't fine, is that Bloodlines 2 is just action slop. No stats, no character sheet, no RPG elements outside dialogue options (ruined by voiced protagonist), that supposedly lead to something (unverifiable). Has nothing to do with VTM, much less Bloodlines, except the IP.

VTMB1 was at its best when it wasn't a shooter, why is this game moving in the opposite direction?

People were angry when they thought this game didn't have guns in it. Now they're angry that it has guns.

You're an Elder. What kind of stats were you expecting to have? Right from the start of the game you're punching people so hard they basically explode. You're not a fledgling. People actually complained that Galeb in Swansong had a stat sheet because he was this incredibly powerful Elder but somehow losing arguments with some dumb security guard. You basically start out this game with max stats, if you had such a thing, and locked disciplines.

Other games have done that much better. You are super powerful but something happens that weakens you and you have to regain your powers which happens at an accelerated speed.

>>718923038
As i said, no gear at all. No armor, no trinkets, no weapons of any kind. The player is a demi-god who just woke up from a long nap.

They didn't want to do that because it's a power fantasy where you tear the living shit out of everyone who disagrees with you. (They did lock disciplines though.)
>no weapons of any kind.
What about all the guns?

There are no guns. All you can do is telekinesis them out of the hands of your enemies shoot them while they float around and when they are empty you throw them away.

Wouldn't it validate the game as a true successor to the original if it really underperforms? If it's a hit sales smash hit it'll feel like it's selling out for better sales.

Remind me again how that's different to the Hardsuit Labs version? In that version you snatched guns, fired them until empty, and then dropped them.

How is firing guns at people not guns?

Statslop is overrated. Its time for RPGs need to evolve beyond mechanics literally designed for pen and paper. We can do better

Original VTM was this random weird game for niche nerdy audiences. This is a hyped up big budget "successor" that by now likely had hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars pumped into it by now.

Maybe you could explain your issue with the handling of guns in the sequels, cancelled or otherwise, to VTM Bloodlines.

An RPG needs 3 types of progression to be an RPG.
>gear
>abilities
>level/world
You get better gear to become more powerful, you get better abilities to be able to do stuff you weren't able to do before and both those mechanics allow you to explore new areas that you can't explore without progressing in those mechanics.

>hurr you're an elder
Just say the player is weakened and it's going to take some time regain his full strength. It takes an elder centuries to become super powerful, it would only make sense that it takes him a couple days or weeks to get back to that power level after a hundred year long nap.

>>718924573
But you're already maximally powerful, basically. This doesn't seem to be a game that gives a shit about what people want from RPGs just as Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs didn't give a shit about audience expectations for survival horror games.

I'd argue STALKER is an FPS/RPG and it has no abilities or levelling at all. It instead has gear and player choices.

Then people will factor that in when making their purchasing decision.

>STALKER is an FPS/RPG
FPS with RPG elements is perfectly fine. Plenty of other genres have RPG elements. But an RPG is a very specific genre with very specific mechanics.

I agree using telekinesis looks like such a blast! I'd much prefer that than Phyre using their smelly old hands.

>>718923495
Don't be so harsh on them, I'm sure we're all just a bunch of unpaid Randoms (people who use 4chan, that is) and we've been brought together by our mutual love of video games.
Anonymous No.718926263
As someone that doesn't mind so much: it's not telekinesis, it's the lack of inventory and gear persistence.
Things you own define you.

The biggest issue with the game so far as it's trying to sell itself is our total lack of a decent reading of how interactive the conversations are going to end long term. That's the make or break of the game. No one i replaying that more than twice to get the exact same story with no significant variations.
Doubly so if the Fabien segments have no consequences on the present, adding insult to injury.
I was hoping that latest Jason Carl/Ian Thomas interview was going to shef some light on this and nothing of worth.
Anonymous No.718926652
>>718925629
Coming from the tabletop, that definition totally misses the point. The point of the game is to emulate tabletop RPGs. We have tabletop RPGs with no gear and no character progression.
Conversely we have computer games that have all those things you mention and who are complete failures at being decent tabletop-RPG emultaion.

This is a Bloodlines 2 shill thread, as a part of shill campaing started just after the gamescom trailer.

Kys, your game sucks and has nothing to do with bloodlines.

Well let's see. The Hardsuit Labs version was scrapped for being total shit and the Chinese Room was brought on to try to salvage shit. The fact that they're doing the same shit Hardsuit Labs did doesn't exactly bode well for the game.
>This doesn't seem to be a game that gives a shit about what people want from RPGs just as Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs didn't give a shit about audience expectations for survival horror games.
Remind me, how did A Machine for Pigs do again? Oh that's right, really god damn poorly. People considered it a total joke compared to Amnesia. Probably not the best comparison.
Anonymous No.718928080
I think I liked the version of Fabien in the "betting man" trailer better than the final version. Something that didn't sound so much as a caricature, yet could have very much been found out a phony once in play.

Thinking on it, the game is in a weird spot design wise.
It can't have Dishonored-like game-system to narrative interaction (designers were wise enough not to tackle that level of complexity; you don't get from a story game studio to Arkane Lyon's level without years of nurturing talents); it should probably aim at having Alpha Protocol story reactivy (probably less given the time, workforce and buget constraints, but that's a fair target), only the free roaming structure makes it harder to smoke-and-mirror away the ropes, so one half of the game is kinda fighting agaisnt the other...
And then ther's the early Favien segment that so far feels like a plot driven point&click.

They really have a very narrow threashold to land that mix.

It changed along with the studio when the first one folded. HSL (Hardsuit Lab, the original studio) version had the thin-blood opening. TCR (The Chinese Room) version goes for an elder.
