Wesp's UP is just fine. When he got a lot of flak for changing things, he separated his work to the Unofficial Patch and + patch. Modern versions of UP leave the game unaltered, while +patch actually adds some great content so it is also worth a try.

I've been playing a kind of text adventure game called Cyberpunkdreams, and while the setting is just straight up cyberpunk you can pick "mutant who drinks blood" as a character trait which is basically just a vampire. You can even join a coven and talk with other vampires. It's pretty neat, having to manage your blood craving and trying to find sources of blood. I've been stealing blood packs from hospitals and getting what I can from random corpses I find.

I don't know why you have such a canned response at the ready, especially when I didn't say anything about Unofficial Patch at all in my post. Also, the Basic version has been a revolving door of minor content being added, removed, broken, or fixed every update for the past decade now. Doesn't help that wesp's changelog format makes it difficult to keep track of it all, I think the current release has the most Basic changes since it's been two years since the last update. Not all of it is malicious, it mostly has to do with how the mod is programmed to work and swap between Basic and Plus versions, but the Unofficial Patch has grown well beyond what you could call "unaltered" at this point.

No, even in recent versions he's doing stuff like lowering lockpicking difficulty on doors in Santa Monica because the plus patch nerfs blood buff and makes it less useful for lockpicking. The basic version still makes changes to dialogue too at the very least. It has never been bug fixes only.

I just used the True Patch with some files from the Unofficial Patch to get it working on modern PC. I played the game without any fan patches multiple times soon after it released and that's the closest to vanilla with more bug fixes. Lurk's patch will still result in more frequent crashing and softlocks, it's mostly meant for speedrunners because it keeps in some bugs they need.

Twilight had destroy the vampire's reputation beyond repair.

I never got far into my vampire character but I loved how different it felt. suddenly the early game criminal activities were less about mugging someone in an alleyway for some loot but literally just to drink their blood to survive another day. the hospital becomes an actual relevant location too as a place to steal blood packs as opposed to something you'd pretty much ignore on a different character. the game's so good for stimulating your imagination

Single-player game, but it has an action point system that regenerates based on real world time. I think it's like 1 action per real life 10 minutes. Meaning at a certain point you have to stop playing the game and come back tomorrow or at least take a break for a few hours. There's nothing really to say about it. There was a short lived general on /vg/ and we all used to seethe about it when the game first came out. We even found a way to edit the game files to make actions unlimited which somehow the dev got wind of so he patched. At the end of the day it's either something you can get over, or can't.
As far as ingame purchases you can pay for different things. There's a metric fuckton of content, but there are a couple of storylines and locations you have to pay for if you want to access them. You can also, of course, pay to refresh your action points in various ways.

Vampires have so much notable media like Dracula, Nosferatu, Twilight, Blade, Buffy, etc. Werewolves don't even have a fraction of that. Vampires have so many variations that you could do a ton of different things. Some vampires don't get burned by crosses or holy water, and some can resist the sun partly or completely. Blood is the only real unifying factor.
