Xbox go home
>2013
Microsoft were clowned for building a smart console that can play your shitty tv shows on demand

>2025
Every console has netflix, disney, Apple TV plus so you can watch your shitty tv shows

Were they right?

In their showcase they made it the selling point, not the additional feature

Sony could do the same thing. Imagine bragging about a console that can use the internet as something new.

PS3 did this in 2006

You could watch netflix on the PS3 since it launched. In fact the PS3 had a pretty KINO selection of free channels to watch.

And just to really hammer in my point, here is the rest of the timeline of Netflix launching on consoles leading up to the Xbox One
>Xbox 360 (2008)
>PS3 (2009)
>Wii (2010)
>3DS (2011)
>Vita (2012)
>Wii U (2013)
Literally a google search away

The prior gen already had streaming apps and internet browsers. Even the fucking Wii had Netflix.

Their reveal was rightfully shat on for being completely retarded, but the biggest reason was them trying to eliminate used games.

It's not about being right, it's about being right at the right time.

When did they become right? Streaming apps were on consoles long before the XBO reveal. Their big new feature was having cable tv on your Xbox which no one was demanding, and no one has come to demand since.

Is /v/ getting so young that they don't even remember the Xbox One reveal?

The Kinect tech was legitimately cool. The problem is that it was made by an overwhelmingly untrustworthy company who had already been transparent with parents about milking you and spying on you at a time when the Snowden revelations were fresh. In a perfect world, I would take the OG Xbox One over PS4 anyday.

They were right, it was just way too much way too early, rural broadband expansion was still an ongoing process at the time. Hell it still is to this day to the point Elon trying to hijack the process with Starlink was recent news. An always online console was not reasonable for a good chunk of the US outside of metropolitan areas. This was important because the US was still Xbox's turf, the PS3 had never outsold the 360 in the US.
The other half of it is this was already coming on years of first party studio neglect. Too much Kinect garbage nobody cared about, not enough interesting tentpoles, overdependence on Call of Duty and other third parties left them without a compelling message. Although ironically the Xbone would launch with more games than the PS4.
