I try to get them for free from the dev/publisher and if they turn me down, I immediately buy and review/refund saying it's broken.

Yes. If I like them after I play them, I buy them. Funniest anti-piracy measure I encountered was in Battle Brothers where the pirated version was 100% playable but you could only recruit thieves. I bought it because it was a good game.

I don't get pirate niggers. Buying and refunding if I didn't like it is so much more convenient.

I'd pay for a game if I can spare the money. Unfortunately I'm jobless recently so my bills matter more than indie devs income until I get another job that can give me the luxury of sparing some money to buy video games.

I pirate anything I'm unsure of that doesn't have a demo. If I like it or finish the game, I buy it. Only developmentally arrested children or poors simply pirate everything and never buy. Anyone with a functioning brain understands that you need to financially reward ideas, morals, projects, etc you want to see flourish or be replicated. I don't want to get fucked by the industry, but I also want to ensure good projects get the money they deserve.

if i don't like it, then i wouldn't have bought it anyway or i would have refunded it

the only other thing i do is pirating them when they're too expensive, either for me at that moment, or for what they offer:
if they're too expensive for what they offer, i don't feel guilty at all even if i like the game, and at best i might buy it if and when it goes on sale with a deep discount
if they're too expensive for me at that moment, but the game is good and deserves its price, then i keep playing it cause i like the game, but i still buy it as soon as i can afford it, even at full price.

The last time i made the mistake of buying a western indie game it turned out they hid a non-binary character from the pre-release footage.
Never buying a western game again.

In the grand scheme of things, why even bother? Things come and go, and unless it's one of those "Founder Pack" which costs thousands of dollars on patereons, the "reward" means jackshit. Even more so when Steam takes half the money.
